It also surprises me how "naughty" 2 1/2 Men is, the language is so risque. And though the series ran at 8 pm when the little ones presumably were off to beddie bye, it now runs in daily reruns at 6:30 when little ones are definitely around to listen.

About "Ghost Whisperer" I liked the first few episodes of series one and then it all went OTT and ridiculous.
These days, even when I have a TV at my disposal like last week, I really cannot be bothered watching it. My roomies were watching some tat one night and I was so relieved when we found a reason to turn it off!
Only cooking shows and good quality documentaries are vaguely missed.

I thought it was kind of interesting, but I was not totally convinced that setting in New Orleans added much to the story. Nevertheless, I will go to see just about any movie that is set in New Orleans anyway. It wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. It was great fun seeing all the local footage and we recognized many of the extras and some of the bit parts. I caught a little of a new AMC series the Killing. It looked pretty good, rather intense. I may check it out. It's been awhile since I've gotten into a TV series. I'm with you Annie about food shows and documentaries. The rest seems a vast wasteland.

Kimby, I got turned on to 2 1/2 men by my folks. You're right that some of the stuff in it is really raw.
Ain't it the truth about Niles/David Hyde Pierce, Cheery?! For me, he really makes the show.
Are you watching Fringe, too, or just looking in on it?
I wouldn't mind seeing at least some of the original Danish The Killing, which I think was shown on the bbc. A friend of mine is watching the new version & says it's quite good.

Newsflash from NOLA re: Nicolas Cage....He was arrested here in NOLA this past weekend for being drunk and disorderly in front of his house and allegedly abusing his wife. I guess he couldn't pull of the Bad Lieutenant with the NOPD.

Is the technical term for that "pulling a Charlie Sheen"?
Um ................... "Somewhere" ............. is it about anything? Anything at all? If I'd been hooked up to an EEG, I'm sure it would have shown a consistently flat line.
Just finished watching it and all I can think is that there must be a thousand better ways I could have wasted my time.

To pull a full Sheen, I think you have to also somehow get naked.

We have just watched the new mini-series 'A Game of Thrones' I read the books years ago (R R Martin) and was sceptical before watching...but we really enjoyed it. I'm a fan of the actor Sean Bean.
It isn't for the squeamish....lots of swearing (!), nudity and a bit of violence thrown in for good measure...I must admit I loved it. ;D

Just saw my first ever snippets of "Mrs. Brown's Boys". It could probably wear on a person after a while, but for the moment, I laughed my head off.

We watched Fair Game last night, with Naomi Watts doing an excellent job as Valerie Plame.
Infuriating of course, and revisiting question why Karl Rove wasn't led away from the White House in handcuffs. The idea of GWB as president becomes freshly absurd when you see him in clips pushing war with Iraq.

Lola, we too watched Fair Game this past weekend. It was disheartening to see how manipulative governments can be. They seem to think they can do whatever they want and then do whatever they want to cover it up when they are caught.
Naomi Watts did a wonderful job in her role and I thought Sean Penn did as well. Karl Rove and Scooter Libby were acting on orders from their superiors and it is those who should also be prosecuted. I found it difficult to watch because it was not just a movie plot, this really happened to real people.
I do not think GWB knew anything except what he was told, that is why he looks so ridiculous when you view footage of him from that time.
I feel sad and angry for all those soldiers, their families and innocent citizens that have been killed because of people being allowed to manipulate reports for their own opportunities and without a thought of the suffering of so many others.

I know if I tried to watch that movie, my head would explode from fury. Last night I watched Twin Falls, Idaho, a movie that's over a decade old. I'd recommend it. It walks a tightrope between trite & sappy and thought-provoking & moving, and pretty much succeeds at the latter two. www.rottentomatoes.com/m/twin_falls_idaho/

The Bad Seed was on TV yesterday. I had forgotten how really creepy this movie is and had also forgotten that this was Patty McCormick's first role ever. Yikes!!!! I can't believe how convincing she is in it. I wonder what ever happened to her anyway...did she grow up to be an ax murderous or something equally as terrifying?

I recently watched "Black Swan" and "The American". I really liked "The American". The story was a little predictable, but the cinematography was great, and the acting was solid. "Black Swan" was a mixed bag. Portman was terrific, but the movie was slow, confusing, and just plain weird. I was disappointed, but I guess that's what happens when you listen to the Hollywood hype machine.

Yay ~~ Thill just got me off the hook to watch Black Swan. It has not interested me at all, but I keep thinking it's something I should watch. One less homework assignment now! The American sounds good. I have been more interested in George Clooney since seeing Up in the Air. I thought the movie was over-rated, but could see what a good actor he is.

Bixa,
I'd give Black Swan a peep just to see Portman's performance if you like that sort of thing...if you are more interested in the story, I would skip it.
Clooney has been getting better and better as an actor, IMHO. This performance was subdued, but in a good way. He lost some weight for the role and looked like he might have done P90X or some other weight loss programs...skinny, but well defined. It was weird, like Clooney's head on some other guy's body in a few of the scenes. Most of the other actors are Italians that I'm not familiar with...

Funny, if I were threatened with torture, I would watch Black Swan again before I would accept to be subjected to The American another time. I found it to be a boring film of total nothingness, although of course I always like to see a film that takes place in a foreign country.

I hope y'all are happy. Now I'm going to be forced to look at both of them to see why you each think the way you do.
I do like watching movies where I'm not familiar with the actors. I can more quickly accept them as the characters they're playing, rather than thinking "Oh [major star] looks pudgy" or "I didn't know [major star] was capable of carrying such a dramatic role" or whatever.

Oh, then you should avoid Black Swan. It is full of "eerie" and "horror", because the main character is a total nut case with maybe hallucinations and maybe something else. You do know that she won the Oscar, don't you? For scaring the shit out of people!

Am I the only person who watched The Borgias? The final episode (#9) of Season One aired tonight. I think it distinguished itself by having almost no relationship to real history at all. It's beautifully mounted, with some really good actors, but more script and more plot would have been a good thing. Jeremy Irons descended into hamminess as the season went on, possibly because of lack of anything else to do. The best thing in the show is Michel Muller as King Charles VIII of France. The other truly great thing in the show is the costuming, for which the word 'beautiful' doesn't suffice.

Michel Muller is a truly unattractive actor who is perfect for certain roles. I haven't seen him in anything in France for at least 3 or 4 years, so now I know what happened to him.

I got the Ed Sullivan Beatles shows on library DVD for my husband the major fan, then got kind of roped into watching a couple of them also. Almost the only bearable parts are the lads themselves and the commercials, and well, a magician was pretty cool. Otherwise it rushes from one mediocre act to the next. Makes the youth protest movement seem inevitable. I say it's time to stop blaming everything on Woodstock and start going for Ed Sullivan instead.
You know there was some actual decent culture in our country those days, if only because Sullivan mentions Ella Fitzgerald having been on the previous week.

I feel like I've been put through the wringer. Just finished watching Presunto Culpable, a documentary about the justice system in Mexico. The movie focuses on a particular case, which makes the stark statistics presented throughout all the more powerful and meaningful.
