Starting May 25th, the EU is applying the General Data Protection Regulation which will prevent GAFA and their friends from pumping every drop of information out of our computers, tablets and phones -- unless the person gives specific permission after being asked nicely. Even the UK is benefiting from this new rules, at least temporarily. I feel sorry for all of the small countries that will never be able to negotiate deals to ensure protection of their citizens.
The Washington Post has a pretty good article outlining the details. Apparently, even the United States government dotards are looking in the direction of Europe for inspiration, as much as they hate anything European.
