Paths to tranquility

Having my normal panic that a trip is on the horizon, forced myself to walk my little circuit this morning. I have been making excuses that my legs are poor because of arthritis so have not had a decent walk all winter. This morning I set off to walk through any excuses. It was very dull and overcast but took the camera just in case, but also to check how it would handle those conditions. It always amazesme how this camera can transform a dull gloomy path into quite a bright picture.
I am waking through the scruffy woodland a couple of hundred yards from home
Soon I have reached a path which follows the old Millstream, this is close to the swampy springs from which it rises, and flows all year. Other paths meander enticingly away from it
But here is where the stream takes shape
Hardly worthy to be called a stream, just a scruffy ditch
Some good reeds along the way
More paths deviate, these lead up to the Speedway track, which has stock car and motor bike speedway racing on a regular basis
Various wild flowers brighten the way, spring is well established now
A lot is overgrown, there is a small pond hidden here
Another well used path into the woods, no doubt somewhere that maidens may be led astray?
But soon I turn for home, having reached the site of the old mill pond. Some years ago the local authority tidied the area and rebuilt the dam which contains the pond. One can see the old brickwork at the side, but the whizzkid who designed the new scheme did not consider that water has power and finds a way through obstacles if they are not made properly watertight. A couple of logs chucked in just don't cut the mustard.
Hope you feel as rested as I do now
