When I retired from work my company gave me a £500 voucher for a heritage steam trip and we chose to go to Portsmouth at the beginning of this month and to see the wonderful Mary Rose museum which was the best museum I can recall visiting. Unfortunately I was unable to take any museum pictures so you will have to take my word for it! Like an idiot I didn't charge up my camera phone so could only take a limited amount of pictures on the day. Our steam engine was a Black Five - We were in an original Pullman carriage called Christina which just happens to be Mrs Cactus middle name - Lovely breakfast! Nice pub too! We took a tour of the harbour and saw a number of historic ships - And one very modern ship - It was a very long day, up at 6 and not home until after midnight but that museum was so worth it. If any of you are in the area you must visit. Check out the Mary Rose website for full information.

Incidentally, the devil in the last picture was the headgear for a Lithuanian hen party on the ship with us!

Oooh...exciting. Where did you get on your train? Looks splendid....
We are in Portsmouth in August (family wedding on Hayling Island) and hope to visit the Mary Rose museum...granddaughter has a summer job at the maritime museum there...she's studying for her Masters (museum studies).

We went from Victoria but came back to Waterloo Cheery. The Mary Rose museum is an absolute must.

The Mary Rose and the history in it are superb. Can remember when we always travelled behind a proper steam engine, and dirty and smelly it could be, not to mention the smuts if you had a window open at the wrong place and time. No accounting for taste is there?

Mick, what a perfect gift your company chose for you! Looks like a wonderful day out with so many interesting things to see and do. How long was the actual train ride?

The steam loco was not the most interesting unfortunately. If it had been Oliver Cromwell or one of the A4 Pacifics it would have been truly wonderful (Mossie might know what I am talking about).
