Every morning before the cleaning crews arrive, the crows in the Jardin Nelson Mandela in Paris rip all of the big municipal trash bags to shreds.

I hung a few balls of fat+seeds for the birds. I threaded string through the plastic netting and attached them to tree branches. By the next day, they were gone! The entire balls were taken away by magpies. The nets were on the ground.

Desperate to get to March which I regard as the start of the growing season.
Bet the weather is rotten though.

I've given in and bought some blue poppy seeds. They can be sown now and left out in the cold frame until they (maybe) germinate. The cleome seeds can be sown now too want some Mickipoo?

I'll pass on that thanks Cheery. I got these 4 pot dahlias for just £5. I reckon that's a good bargain -

Dahlias and roses were my grandfather's pride and joy. I cannot see a dahlia without thinking about him.

My Dad was a great fan too. I think that is why I like them so much. They originally came from Mexico btw.

Mickipoo is an affectionate term Questa..no funny business went on. Mick knows I am a full member of the Mickthecactus fan club. Good job you didn't want any seed Mick...the seeds were like dust.

Next to Mrs Cactus Cheery is the loveliest person I know even though we don't agree politically.
If there were more Cheeries in the world it would be an infinitely better place.

Watching a programme on Japanese gardening including Zen gardens. Fascinating.

I love the simplicity of zen gardens. The Himeji garden in Adelaide is a gift from the people of our sister city in Japan. southaustralia.com/products/adelaide/attraction/adelaide-himeji-gardenA friend and I made a mini garden with a flat tray filled with white small grain rice. We positioned some interesting small rocks and a touch of moss then raked the rice into the pattern around the perimeter and the classic furrows filling the rest of the space..... or was that emptying the space? (used the dog's wide toothed comb for raking, and match sticks for the detail).

I will prune my rose bushes today and dig up some irises to give away before we move. I know it's the wrong time of year for the irises.

I think the worst that can happen with the irises is that they might lose a season of bloom. That's what happens with amaryllis, anyway. What treasure for the iris recipients, though, even if they have to wait a little for those glorious blooms.

I dug up some ordinary purple ones and then some goldy/beige hybrids that I bought years ago and which spread like crazy. I had ordered some dark ones on the internet (from a grower not too far away) last year and when I called for information, the grower told me that they wouldn't bloom the first year but should be planted in August. Mine were planted in spring. I hope to see them this year.

I guess the purple ones might be "ordinary", but I love irises too much to ever consider any of them ordinary. The goldy/beige ones sound wonderful.

not goldy/beige, just beige: On my (really really good) monitor, that iris is a wonderful pale shade of pink, although like Questa, I don't know exactly how to describe it. Anyway, very pretty & it seems to glow from within. Kerouac, why don't you just buy some little supermarket plant to stick in the window until your herbs get going?

Yes, it looks pink on my screen too, but it's definitely more beige in reality.

When my second son was doing his thesis for his PhD. somewhere in it was a bit I could grasp (sort of). It was whether what I see as a named colour is the same colour as you, or others, see. I think it was just an example for the main part of his work.
The thesis was titled "Conceivability Arguments Against Physicalism or How to Slay Zombies and Banish Spectres"
Yeah...your guess is as good as mine!

I set my camera to take two versions of photos each time i shoot: one RAW uncompressed, and another in JPEG at the highest resolution. When shooting flowers, the color can look quite different and one or the other will be much truer to what my eye sees.

Sorry Questa, but I think the reason for our problems today is that there is far too much education and not enough common sense. Your boy's gobbldygook is typical
