Beautiful photos. I knew that the desert would bloom this spring after all of the exceptional rain there has been. Of course, then there will be a greater risk of wildfires later in the year. You can't have it all.

Just beautiful, Bubba! In picture #3, are the flowers something like a bluebell, such as can be seen slightly in picture #2?

Palm Springs has always been a mystery to me. Even though I lived in Southern California for 6 years, the closest I ever got to it was passing the exit on the freeway. I have been to a lot of the crummy towns in the area, though. That perfectly preserved architecture from the 20th century is definitely a reason to visit.

Great picture portfolio, Bubba! I've always been fascinated by that era, which incorporated some wonderful design and practicality. Interesting that it's very hot right now again. Any idea if those period signs -- Stardust and Canyon -- are original to their buildings or something put on by a 50s-mad homeowner?

These look familiar to anyone who looks at Houzz. Since mid-century modern design is popular right now, they often feature houses from the mid-20th century and their renovations. And many of those houses are in Palm Springs.

Some wierd and wonderful stuff there, no doubt lovely well epuipped homes, but the gardens look very artificial. The very last picture took my eye, looks like an outlandish pattern painting. Does the further estate show fire damage, all the gardens are black.

I'm trying really hard not to gush These are fabulous bubba10. Are the little round flowers verbena? Must look them up... The colours are stunning, I really like the light on the trunks of the palm trees and the stillness of each scene. Those houses look amazing...like a film set. The blue, blue skies contrast rather spectacularly with the milky grey skies over the UK right now...*sigh*

But Mossie, of course the gardens look artificial. It's the desert! Everything has been brought in. Otherwise, they would have to depend on the occasional rainfall that makes the desert bloom.
You can see that in the overhead picture.

Those are great pictures bubba. Love that little caravan in picture 5 and all the cacti of course!
Thanks.

Bixaorellana - Thanks for the kind words! Those are original signs, still existing, for small boutique style hotels. More disappear every year....

Mossie: No, it is just a very dark green golf course, possibly shaded. Without water, all of Palm Springs is just desert. Luckily, the city sits on a HUGE aquifer.

Cheerypeabrain: Thank you and yes, I believe they are low growing natural verbena. It disappears during the hotter dry months only shows up for a short time if there is enough rain.

Hard to tell which pictures are contemporary and which are from years ago. That old Chevrolet should be sent to Cuba -- they would fix it right up.

That was a great movie. I did prefer the song "I'm calling you" to the one on the trailer.

Huckle: Coincidentally, the last photo and the Cafe sign above it are a few miles away from where the movie was set. The actual town exists on a map, but there is nothing there. The movie was filmed in Newberry Springs a short distance away for the historical ghost town.

I actually drove to Bagdad, even though I knew the movie was not filmed there. Sometimes there is a symbolic location which must be visited even if there is nothing to see.

The French news tonight showed the California desert in bloom, particularly golden poppies. They didn't say exactly where it was.

Those photos are amazing, but the article also confirms what I already said -- those areas are going to burn like crazy.
