It all seems highly dodgy to me, a method for criminals and plutocrats to move money about and hide from the authorities. Also could be subject to manipulation.

When I first started reading the article I was thinking that there was no earthly use for it -- thinking this from my middle class, mainstream country perspective.
But when I read the list of entities on board with it -- Visa! Tiva! -- and about the idea that it can be used by people in remote or undeveloped areas, it becomes more compelling as an idea.
Still don't get how it works, though.

I don't really understand either. On one hand, I approve of the idea of removing international exchange commissions and the like from worldwide transactions, but on the other hand, it is pretty obvious that to make money, they are already charging you something right from the start to enter the system, so isn't that the same as a commission?
There was a rather lengthy article in my newspaper today about the danger of elevating private companies to the status of currency issuing entities. Do you want Facebook controlling the economy? Did you vote for them in your last election?

Absolutely -- how far do you trust Mark Zuckerberg? Given the most recent privacy issues that have come up, why would you entrust your money to these people?
Don't hear much about bitcoin either these days. What happened to that?

Cryptocurrency is impossible to predict. There is a reasonable chance that my cryptocurrency holdings (which currently represent less than 5% of my portfolio) will be worth nothing in the future. There is also a reasonable chance that they will be worth more than anything else I've ever purchased.
