I agree, this has been great. A very strenuous day out by the look of that zigzag path, plus the lighthouse stairway.
Many thanks.

Gosh!!!!!
Just gorgeous, Lugg, and infinitely fascinating as well! My heart was in my mouth looking at the picture of the women scrambling up that terrifying cliff, and my knees hurt just thinking about making the descent to the lighthouse.
I love all the long shots and the beautiful compositions of sea and cliffs. The birds are of course wonderful, and I share in your disappointment over the puffins.
I adore your shots of the fresnel lens & their adjuncts, a subject which fascinates me. Because the lens are different from most pictures of lighthouse lens I've seen, I looked them up. It turns out that they were designed and produced for South Stack lighthouse by Chance Brothers glass makers from Smethwick, Birmingham in 1873. This is a six-sided system producing six separate beams of light.
Anyway, thanks again for this treasure, which is one to be re-visited and enjoyed.

A very strenuous day out by the look of that zigzag path, plus the lighthouse stairway. I think it was after this walk that I decided enough was enough and went to my GP and then eventually had the knee replaced. It was the descent that was the killer . Thanks Bixa for the info about the fresnel lens.

What an amazing place! For me the rock formations were of particular interest and reminded me of the formations in Scotland off the Isle of Mull. Those are actually the continuation of the Giants Causeway in Ireland. Thank you Lugg for the great photos.
