The article in the Guardian cited a publication in The Lancet, a very reputable British medical journal.
It's easy to forget that Covid is still going on. I believe that contact cases are no longer supposed to isolate in France. Life seems pretty much back to normal. I rarely see people with masks other than in medical situations like doctor's waiting rooms or pharmacies, not that I spend much time in either.

well, here, now, there are almost no rules anymore - you don't have to isolate when you have covid, the only places that still require masks and/or tests are places like homes for the elderly etc. ... well, and if there are suddenly a lot of cases in a school class (like, in agnes' class it was six kids last week) they send the whole class home, though this might actually be an individual decision of schools or teachers ... i was surprised, btw, when i picked up a. on thursday, after her teacher called, that only about five kids were still there, waiting for their parents - i suppose people have become more flexible, too, more work from home, and it has become more normal that you have to improvise (also in other situations, like teacher strikes etc.) ...

We hear virtually nothing about it now.

I think the only place where you still have to wear a mask in France is inside a hospital, but they probably don't even enforce it downstairs (as opposed to in a hospital room). I've seen a few more masks this week but mostly on the new influx of Asian tourists.

When I was at the clinic the other day to get my booster, it was quite busy. When you sign in, you are given a colored laminated card to identify what shot you are there for. There was a rainbow of colors sitting around us and we heard a few people saying they were there getting their 2nd shot so they can travel over the March break holiday period. We heard people were surprised that they still could not travel to many countries without having a proof of vaccination saying they thought it was all over.
We rarely see anyone wearing masks. Where I have seen them is at the arena when we go to watch a hockey game. We still have to wear a mask at the doctor's offices and at the hospital. They are also no longer required at the airport.

I noticed today that the sign on the small building that was used as a vaccination centre in our town is no longer there. I can only suppose that the few people looking for booster shots are getting them at a pharmacy.

The metro was full of signs saying that masks are no longer mandatory but are highly recommended. Those signs have now been removed.

We still check the statistics on-line with our local Health Unit website each Thursday. They only post cases that are hospitalized. Currently we have 10 in hospital, 2 due to COVID, 8 tested positive on admission for other health issues. My father was in the hospital last week for 4 days and everything has returned to normal except staff and visitors are still masked but there are no longer any staff at the entrances or restrictions regarding visiting. There are new stands with supplies of masks and hand sanitizer.

It doesn't seem like yesterday to me -- rather far off but it feels like a period where everything stopped but then everything changed.

I heard that the OMS has declared that covid is becoming a generalized virus like seasonal flu.

That's better than it being generalized like cancer.

I feel as though I am becoming one of those stupid people we all know. I have the intention of getting the 5th injection, but I keep putting it off because it no longer seems important.

Not a stupid person, Kerouac. Just wait until fall and you'll get the double flu+covid vaccine they are planning to roll out annually.
I don't even think about covid vaccines any longer, just had the first booster (so 3 in all), then a light case of covid. Never had a flu shot either so I'll just wait and see how things develop.

The spring booster here is recommended for the over 75s and clinically vulnerable. It's not been rolled out yet. Our son is the only one who qualifies in this household.

Adelaide still gets reminded on a daily basis that "it" hasn't gone away but is building up all the better to hit again when we have any outside events...sport, entertainment, demonstrations etc. We are told that if we get symptoms stay home but it seems that after 3 days we can return to work.

The group were among the few people unmasked on the flight and I was literally surrounded by them on the plane as they laughed and talked nearly in my face for ten hours.

My sister and BiL had covid recently. Neither of them were particularly ill altho it's left my BiL with a bit of a cough. Both tested negative after 4 days...they were told by their GP to self isolate and only to go out after a 2nd negative test taken 48 hours after the first. It's a huge relief that they're ok, my sister flies out to Australia at the end of the month to visit her daughters having not seen them for over 3 years!

(i was just asking, because in your post it sounded like you knew you got it from them, so i was wondering if something specific made you sure, like someone actually saying they have it ...)

Today I noticed that more people wear a mask on the metro and bus on the weekend than during the week. I suppose that we daily users feel more relaxed than people who don't use public transportation all the time but instead mostly on the weekend. Still, it only seems to concern 2-5% of the users. From my own observation, most of them are elderly immigrant women. Some of the men in that category seem to wear "chin masks" probably because they were ordered to wear a mask by their spouse when going out.

When I see people with masks, I feel they look rather strange since there are so few of them. I stopped wearing one as soon as they were no longer obligatory.

What makes me wonder about masks is that, 1) the person might have recently been exposed to Covid, but not yet tested positive. Or not tested at all. 2) The person might actually have an active case of Covid, but feel well enough to be out and about. And 3) the person is getting over a case of Covid.
I haven’t worn a mask in a good while, but am considering popping it on in crowded bus/subway situations. Crowded airports are another place I’d consider wearing my mask. Even if it helps to prevent me from catching a cold or other virus, it’s probably worth it.
