Well, since Christmas has not quite been cancelled this year, I went to boulevard Haussmann yesterday morning for my annual photo shoot. I got there just as all of the homeless were packing up their gear in front of the department stores. It is a good dry protected space, and the overhead lights must also provide a bit of warmth, but when the Christmas windows spring into life at 8 a.m. it's time to move along. Not that there are any crowds at the time, but the music from the windows quickly becomes unbearable, and also the window washers have to go to work. This year the stores did not install the usual viewing platforms for the smallest children, certainly to reduce all of their viral togetherness and the impossibility of constantly wiping down the railings. Boulevard Haussmann was still relatively quiet at this time of day.
But the little people in the windows at Printemps were already hard at work.
The theme for Printemps this year is "Partageons Noël" (Let's share Christmas). They can't come up with a brilliant theme every year.

A least one child reflects the modern concept of Christmas.

I was talking about designing them, not photographing them.

Thank you! I did not think we would see this report this year but YEAH! I love the sloth. First impression was that I realized that I did pay any attention to the products being showcased until after I looked at the photos quite a few times.

Well done Kerouac, I'm afraid I have to give them a miss this year. Pity the children don't have their platforms to allow them to press their noses to the windows.

Looking at the photos and the video almost bring to mind a time when there wasn’t a pandemic ravaging much of our planet. A time when life was a bit more “normal.” It was very smart of you to go early, Kerouac. Very nice report!

Yeah a touch of previous life as we knew it ...great to see - love how the video brings the photos to life. Such wonderful colours. I especially liked to see Woody - he has certainly stood the test of time - he was one of my son's favourite characters and now also beloved by my 2 year old great nephew.
I think I have said this before but I especially love the outside street pics of the trees all dressed up in lights

Love your 3-D photos! Okay, I know they're not, but the really do jump out of the monitor.
For my taste the Printemps windows are very clever and all, but Galeries Lafayette really captures the Christmas-is-for-kids spirit.

Very neat, having the walkway under the dome. They have gone to town this year.

I love the kind of tropical underskirt on the tree, but adore the walkway! It must feel absolutely magical being up there under the dome with all the gorgeous oversized ornaments over your head.

I'm so happy to see your fabulous camera work and showing us the Christmas windows! I think this is your best one yet. I liked Printemps for the simply ingenious puppet work. The techniques used actually leave puppets behind and rather introduce human movements with the legs and arms. Must take them a year to get ready for the next show. Thank you so much Kerouac. Maybe, just maybe I could twist someones arm and fly via Paris one Xmas - Singapore is on the menu but we will have to see.

Singapore is very nice at Christmas, too, but of course you don't get the animated Christmas windows. The bonus of Singapore is that Christmas and Chinese New Year are merged for a holiday season that lasts at least 3 months. Too much of a good thing?

Great video - it looks very quiet, I guess that this is not a normal amount traffic / footfall on X-Mas Eve.

Super video, Kerouac. Wonderful work! Hopefully, one day, we can look back on this moment and say “remember when,” while also appreciating, and not taking for granted, our normal little freedoms to travel, spend time with friends and family, and to not be constantly vigilant. I’m looking forward to seeing a more “festive and jolly” Christmas Eve video from you next year!.
Wishing all anyporters a peaceful holiday season.

Now that is a great video! Not only is it wonderfully artistic, it's melancholy in just the right way. Love the "world turned upside down" thing there at the end. You've created a artful video that perfectly documents a place & a time.
