And yes, The Garden by the House is surely Broxwood, especially if you look at your 4th picture down in reply #13. I thought that but of course he was long time dead before the current Broxwood was built -I wondered if the painting influenced the design of the house? I've searched to try to id the house in the painting but no luck. So probably just a co-incidence or maybe the current house bears more resemblance to the one that was demolished. But yes the whole family history is fascinating .... but even more history to come in my next two threads I suspect.

Oh yes -- of course! The house must have been built @20 years or so after he was gone. He was either prescient, or perhaps took artistic license with the actual garden & house of Broxwood. "next two threads" ~~~ *pricks up ears (& eyes)* By all means bring on the history. It makes even the most beautiful thread even richer.
