Ignorance? I don't know about that. (that was a joke)
There are disadvantages to too much information surely. It fosters misinformation and (mis?)beliefs. Has there been worse years though? Not that I remember. I wouldn't put down any of the crises around at the moment but the one that has had air time the longest is climate change and that does seem to be getting worse. There appear to be records broken every week. Maybe we need a nuclear winter to re-set everything. Like switching your computer off then on again.

Just to balance that a little bit, when I was a kid the only news source was the BBC. I wonder if because of the ease now to get reports out of anything and everything the knowledge of the amount of things happening is greater. There could easily have been many things happening years and years ago that we weren't aware of. It just seems more now - even though I do agree that the 'crisis rate' looks like it's increasing.

I made my husband a grilled cheese sandwich With mayo instead of butter? That seems to be a popular thing nowadays. I had bratkartoffeln mit speck und ei (fried potatoes with bacon and egg).

Jeez, you're even referencing a 1939 slogan. You'll soon be going back to when a French bowman said to his mate in 1066, "Careful waving those arrows around, you'll have somebody's eye out."

It would be a good job then that I'm there within the first two weeks. But I only have left a few small coins. Made sure to spend it all on the way through a couple of weeks ago to get to Germany. The handy thing always was though that you could pay the motorway tolls in Euro.

I spend relatively a lot of time in Croatia. It's handy it having the Euro from Jan 1st. I'll be there a day or so later and saves me no end of hassle. The problem will be increased scrutiny on the Croatian side of the Bosnia border leading to more delays as the border point I go through has, even though on a major road, just one booth. Two if I'm lucky but still only a single carriageway road. Even now the Bosnia police have to gather together a convoy of cars to bypass the trucks blocking the road. The major advantage though is the removal of checks between Croatia and Slovenia. That was always very busy and delaying.

Just to mention K2, we are here for you to help you get through these difficult times. You are not alone in feeling a sense of loss, that it seems a personal insult, the inability to understand a decision which appears to go against all sense, or sense as you see it from your point of view. A decision you couldn't influence, you were powerless to intervene and yet, the end result doesn't affect you. It's a conundrum for you. The difficulty in accepting and understanding the thoughts and reasoning of others. The obsession.
I could go on but it'd be embarrassing. I want you to know if you would like a counselling session I'd be willing to provide it, at no cost to you financially, but maybe mentally. I do have a number of coping strategies I could share with you to get you through it and out the other side. The first step though, always, is to acknowledge there is a problem. Without that step there is little I can do to help.
It's like the old joke of how many psychologists does it take to change a light bulb. Only one. But the light bulb has to want to change.

What kind of beast? As Mrs M is not here the daughters, who don't like some of the vegetables we normally have, instructed me to just make turkey, roast potatoes, peas and cauliflower cheese. Also lashings of gravy. So I did.

Not denying we have donkeys leading us but you asked for one thing - Not having to put up with things like Qatargate. "The arrest of a European Parliament vice-president and four others linked to a corruption investigation implicating World Cup hosts Qatar sparked calls Saturday for “root and branch reform” in the EU institution. “This is not an isolated incident,” said anti-corruption campaigning group Transparency International."
The EU Parliament is at the highest level of EU governance and influences everything in the EU. It is wasteful and corrupt. We are well out of it.

My daughter has just had to fill the same form three times. She was complaining. I pointed out she only had to fill it out once and there were carbon copies. She had hadn't come across that before. She then had to put them in an envelope to post. It was self sealing. But she asked me why I didn't lick it like you see in movies. I had to explain about having to wet the glue. She thought it was just spit that held it together.

In Whatsapp conversations with my daughters (both 23) they hate when I write 'ok' and not 'okay'. They think I am being terse and short with them. Well, they did until I asked them about it and realised they didn't know ok predated okay by a long time. Also I seem to be making a faux pas by using a thumbs up emoji. Again, too terse and I should be using a double thumbs up as it is nicer.

One thing about German is how literal it is. I don't like much about the language, it is quite fitting to the thread that many words I hate, but often I'm given a clue as to what a word means if I parse it. In this case a Dachshund is a 'badger dog' - though that's not always the case.
E.g. -Stinktier – stink animal (skunk) Faultier – lazy animal (sloth) Gürteltier – belt animal (armadillo) Murmeltier – mumbling animal (groundhog) Schnabeltier – beak animal (platypus) Maultier – mouth animal (mule) Trampeltier – trampling animal (bactrian camel). (The verb trampeln means to trample or tread upon, whereas the noun Trampel is a clumsy oaf.) Schildkröte – shield toad (tortoise) Waschbär – wash bear (raccoon) Nacktschnecke – naked snail (slug) Fledermaus – flutter mouse (bat) Seehund – sea dog (seal) Tintenfisch – ink fish (squid)
My favourite - Truthahn – threatening chicken (turkey).
Schweinswal – pig whale (porpoise) Seeschwein – sea pig (dugong). Seekuh, or sea cow, known in English as a manatee. Stachelschwein – spike pig (porcupine). Wasserschwein – water pig (capybara) Meerschweinchen – ocean piglet (guinea pig).

Goblin mode is two words, I pedantically point out. Gaslighting originated from a 1944 film of a 1938 play, which is a curiosity that 'the young folk of today' mostly use it. But probably have no idea where it came from.

I played cricket just once competitively. That was for the school team and only because I could say then that I'd played for the school in every sport they had a team for. That also included chess if that is considered a sport.

If it is combined, the effort it took to make it look real seems out of proportion to what it is about. Check out that she has a shadow the same angle and length as the horses. Also the kick up of the sand from her right foot and then a larger amount as she tips over from her left foot (at 10 seconds for 1 second).

Difficult to know where to put this on the forum as it may fit in a number of places. Nevertheless, today marks the day that the man who invented Chicken Tikka Masala died. In Glasgow. "Ali Ahmed Aslam is said to have come up with the dish in the 1970s when a customer asked if there was a way of making his chicken tikka less dry." www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-64055639
