Eric Carmen, lead singer for Raspberries, has died in his sleep at 74. Perhaps best known for Hungry Eyes which was featured in Dirty Dancing.
He also sang All By Myself, and Almost Paradise. All very familiar songs though I never heard his name before today.

Two more stunners. Really loving satin lately. And beige gowns.

Some thoughts on the After Party attire: Probably my favorite, though it looks like it was made for a larger woman.

I remain relieved that so many of the French artists at the César awards chose not to wear gowns. And I also noticed that not a single person here made a remark about it even though i gave the link. OK, you shamed me into going back to click your link, and once I accepted le cookies and puzzled out how to open the photo link (I don’t speak French), I was amazed at the number of women in slacks, the near total lack of color, and the poor lighting of the stage these photos were taken on. A very different feel from the Hollywood red carpets. This was about the only one I liked:

More images of Hailee Steinfeld, which cause me to revise my initial lukewarm praise to whole-hearted approval. What a gown!

I quite liked this gown, though I wish the fabric was sleeker (like Carey Mulligan’s gown from the SAG awards)

As usual, Melissa McCarthy violates ALL the rules of dressing for big girls. As did Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who won this category as well as took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

I wanted to like this gown, but it evoked the ghost of Cruella DeVille for me. And I liked her last dress so well. Edited to add that this gown was evidently a remake of a couture gown worn to the Oscars in the mid-20th century… More about the gown here. Including video of her walking in it. (It’s rather tight around the knees.) www.vogue.co.uk/gallery/carey-mulligan-oscars-2024And a photo of the original.

“Male gaze” is a new one on me. I stand by my assessment of her dress not flattering her figure. Watching her from several angles as a presenter does not change my opinion. However the photo on Vulture is somewhat more flattering than the one I posted above. (If only it tapered more sleekly from bodice to skirt.) She looks like a real live Barbie doll in this pose.

And what might be my favorite gown. It’s conventional and unique at the same time and flatters her figure and skin.

This looks like a costume from a sci-fi horror flick, The Revenge of the Fringed Lizard, perhaps.

I wanted to love this dress but Anya isn’t quite the right shape for it. More bust and less bottom would make this gown a winner.

I love love love the color and drape of Hailee Steinfeld’s skirt, but the bodice is too low or too small, and I can’t get behind those cuffs linked to that neck yoke. Bare arms and a draped scarf/train would look better IMO.
