The thrush managed to survive and got away although it took quite a while. It had crashed just in the place we drop breadcrumbs and a blackbird seemed to divebomb the thrush at one point. The thrush managed to move away so I knew it wasn't dead. It then sat up against the wall for a while longer but I didn't see it leave.
I didn't want to get close to the bird at all since I figured that if the crash hadn't killed it, the fear of a large human would. All I did was use a dustpan to flip it over onto its stomach.
Fortunately the neighbours' nasty cat is dead so I wasn't worried about predators. It wasn't a pleasant cat and killed a lot of birds.

Bjd, how cruel to marry into a French family only to find that they didn't really care about food. Interestingly, at least two of my three sisters-in-law are really good cooks. Compensating, I guess.

A thrush just slammed into the window beside me. Second one today. This morning's bird looked a bit stunned but went away after a few minutes. This evening's bird knocked itself out. It was lying on its back so I went and turned it over. It finally managed to raise itself onto its feet but 10 minutes after the accident, it is still standing there and breathing with difficulty -- sort of throbbing.
It's not that my windows are especially clean. Don't birds see the frames and that they are set into a house?

As a price comparison, my husband had a crown put in yesterday. Final cost was 700€ for the crown and 200€ for the dental care.

I haven't the faintest idea. I just remember this large gray thing on the plate. Then again, he overcooked other things. My mother-in-law never lifted a finger so the poor man had to do all the cooking and he wasn't especially good at it. But they weren't very interested in food either so it only mattered when they had company at the table.

Bixa, my introduction to tongue was my father-in-law boiling it in a pressure cooker, then putting this large, gray blob on the plate.

If you mean 1899-1900, I should think that was absolutely not the case. I lived in Toronto from 1957 to 1975, and blacks were beginning to arrive in the late 1960s - early 1970s, mostly from the West Indies. There were no black kids in any of the elementary schools I went to (we moved several times) nor in our high school of 1300 kids. Lots of immigrants but mostly European and a few Asian kids.
I remember the US race riots in the 1960s and Canadians patting themselves on the back, saying "that wouldn't happen here". But there were very few blacks so the question didn't come up. There was no official segregation because the population was generally white. Discrimination against Indigenous people for sure, but not seen so much in Toronto.
That show is being politically correct now, for today's audience.

Well, I have tried it and know I don't like it. Perhaps more to do with the way it was cooked but it put me off for life.

On a positive note, the rosebush I moved about a week ago -- for about the 4th time -- has bloomed. On a negative note, I planted alliums for the first time this year. Of the 10 or 12 in the package, only 2 have bloomed. The rest have leaves but no stems or blooms.

Lovely pictures, Lugg. I have always loved the idea of a garden surrounded by brick walls but of course, it would not be suitable in a warm climate. You chose a beautiful time of year to visit.

Obviously clematises prosper in cooler wetter climates. Yours is so much more beautiful and full than any of mine.

I knew Langres was somewhere in the northeast but I had to look it up on a map. That's not Burgundy any more, is it? I'm surprised by the tiled roof.
"Most maligned"? I think it's not on many people's radar at all. But I'm pleased to see these photos -- they make the place look pretty nice and with lots of fancy buildings for such a small population.

My Dutch irises finished a couple of weeks ago. Those arum lillies are very common around here and seem to plant themselves. When we removed the hedge, lots of them appeared. They make a nice big pop of white and last for a long time.

He is particularly lucky in having that field behind his garden. It makes it look as though the garden continues.

Our neighbour told us on Friday that he had covid. He is in a choir and everyone rehearsing in a small room caught it. But a fairly mild case, just a bit of a cough.

I didn't look on Friday, when the sky was clear, because I had assumed the lights wouldn't be visible this far south and apparently they were spectacular. Last night we had a thunderstorm and rain, so nothing to see.

Our night rate is from 1 am to 7 am, but there is also a lower rate from 12:30 to 14:30. It really seems to vary by area.
Yesterday afternoon it was 29.9°C on our thermometer. I'm not ready yet for summer heat. Fortunately it is supposed to be only about 24° today and then 17° tomorrow.

In watching gardening videos, I have noticed that Americans tend to use popular names for plants while Brits tend to use more botanic terms, like callistemon vs bottle-brush, aquilegia vs columbine, etc.
Visibly your climate is really suitable for orchids, Bixa.
