Mark to say I'm shocked or left for words is about it concerning the Underground/metro line is a big shock to me. It makes me angy to think that South Africa with all its riches has not progressed since the apartheid era ended or even before that. What's wrong with the rulers of our country? Why are we so very very backward in our transport system. No real buses to speak of, the railroad system dead, and everyone taking a taxi/Uber to work to be on time. I'm sad when I see other countries way ahead even with huge problems.

Tonight on this cold rainy evening. I produced a roasted baby lamb saddle French cut style. Roast potatoes, steamed carrots and fresh green beans and a sweet potato puree which I have become addicted to. For my husband the never failing of a pile of white rice on the side! Lovely rich gravy and a semi-homemade mint sauce. That means a tablespoon of the preserved stuff into red wine vinegar, honey and fresh chopped mint leaves from my herb pots. Wine was a robust Pinotage, I'm stuffed and ready for Poirot.

I was confronted by a most unusual sight and decided the best thing to do was just go off Anyport. I have no idea what else I could have done. You know I'm not good at computer stuff.

Bixa - There is no recipe really. The ratio of beans to samp is entirely up to you. I like a half and half mixture with an extra cup of samp. So if I measure 2 cups beans it would be three cups samp. Soaked overnight then rinsed and any debris removed. Then topped up with water and 2 or maybe even three cubes of chicken or veg stock. Never add seasalt at this stage. Boil away slowly and add more boiling water if necessary until you test some and see if it is soft enough. Give a good stir to incorporate the cubes but after that no need to stir too often.

love the avenue of palms & the sun setting over the water. Yes indeed - that is a terrific shot Mark - Kerouac - Have a look at the palm tree nearest the camera . You can distinctly see rings around the trunk. They are too close to be years I think.

Now I'm wondering if palm trees even have rings. Yes they do but I tthink they are the rings of each fresh output of leaves or fruit - Not an annual ring. Go back and look at the photos of the palms and you will see what I mean. These are my 100+ years old palms at the back of our house. They are two palms planted either side of a fishpond by the original owner of the property, then sub-divided around 1978 or before, and purchaed by us in 1980 when we started building this house. When I saw the palms I could not bring myself to have them simply chopped down. I got Mr.Tod to build around the base of the palms to retain the soil. They never flinched!

So I tried a new product by buying those Mediterranean sausages - FAILED! Not a bad flavour but the consistency was like a Vienna sausage or hotdog. Tonight it's fish and salad even though the weather is very cool and drizzly. I found a recipe book I bought on a sale years ago packed away in a box of books. It's called The French Market by Joanne Harris & Fran Warde. I'd forgotten what a fabulous book this was recipewise! I am so delighted with some of them I am going to start by make Gougere Au Jambon for tomorrow night supper. Just so happens that I have half an Eisbein left over from a birthday lunch at the weekend. It will do nicely for the jambon part. app.ckbk.com/recipe/thef08237c01s001r008/gougere-au-jambon

Lugg your fabulous photos show so much. I can almost breath in the fine rarified air in great gasps. The vistas remind me of "On a clear day you can see forever". A lone shell of a boat adds to the romance of the lakes and hills. The deserted and ruins of the old church say to me "Elvis has left the building" , but the gravestones stay solid over the folks below. The yellow gorse adds that special glorious colour to the landscape. It seems to grown everywhere in Scotland. Which brings me to ask if you saw any Heather?

I made 4 sides of pork ribs roasted in a sticky honey & Soy marinade. They were for my grandsons supper and ours. We had a savoury rice on the side.
Tonight it is a new kind of sausage, Mediterranean Pork Sausages, How could I not buy them with a name like that?, mixed vegetables and cauliflower au gratin. Also the last of the samp (hominy) & beans I cooked about a month ago and froze into portions.

Looks like it never really died but went into a dormant stage until conditions were suitable. I Googled several websites and see that it loves moderately moist but very fertile soil of a compost nature. Also must have shade as it cant take heat. I read that it can be divided at the tuber and roots. So I do hope it continues to spring into life once more for you!
