Yes, I'm being nosy! It would be interesting to see how what each person has selected fits in with our ideas of that person's personality. Here's the one I've been using for quite a while:

I'm using the standard WinXP desert dune shot with blue sky in the background.

Ooooo, Spindrift! I think if I were to borrow your computer, I'd never get past the desktop. That is an astoundingly magnificent picture. I managed to blow yours up a little bit, Kerouac -- so teeny here! It's gorgeous, with that dense fog (or is it clouds?) filling the valley. Somehow that dune scene seems right for you, HW. It's one of my favorites, too. I don't know the Vista choices, Pookie, but that sounds lovely. Would that be an ideal setting for you? I used the one below for ages. It's the ancestral town, a place I've never been. When I'd go to turn off the computer, I loved the way it looked like night was falling on the town. (Yes, I am a simple soul.)

Mine is Stonehenge, which I think is from a standard Windows stock, but it has special memories for me. Last time I used a photo for my desktop, the computer went wrong, but that was mainly due to RAM, I think. One day, I'll personalise more ....

can't post the picture here as i don't have it anywhere online... Rikita ~~ you don't have an ImageShack account?! It makes it so easy to host your own pictures and get the url. Beautiful picture, Askar ~~ I can almost feel the cold air crackling around me. Have you been there, & did you take the photo? (and pee ess ~~ please check out this thread when you have a chance. )

Rikita, here are links to some hosting sites. (in Part Two) ImageShack makes it really easy to quickly grab a photo saved on your computer. PhotoBucket is good for uploading a whole file of pictures so you can present a photo essay or travelogue. I know you are concerned about altering the size of your originals. Please go here to see that discussed. Especially note Reply #20.

Beautiful picture, Askar ~~ I can almost feel the cold air crackling around me. Have you been there, & did you take the photo? I spent a couple of days in the Svaneti province, in the northwest of Georgia last year. Mount Elbrus (the highest summit of Europe) is only 50 km far from where I stayed, across the Russian border. I couldn't see it from where I was unfortunately, so the photo is not from me.

I can see why you would want to be in its presence, Askar -- it has that feeling of the important magical mountains around the world. Thank you so much for reducing the picture, too! That's a lovely picture, Iain -- so restful. I too love the look of fallow fields. I am going to ask you to check out the picture-reducing thread, please. Learning how to resize your digital photos will also make attaching them to emails much easier.

bixa ... i realize all this, but since the occasion that i want to show a picture that i haven't taken myself and thus don't want to upload on flickr occurs only like three times per year, i just don't see it as worth the effort. i might even end up uploading this picture to flickr and show it to you. i will see.

Oooooo ~~ That's beautiful! Is that one of the Vista choices, or something you found?
I'm using the "Philadelphia" skin because the gradient of blue to almost black appeals to me so much. There's the exact same gradient in your Antarctic scene, but with grandeur.

I don't have a background on my little netbook, which is what I use most of the time, but on my old big-screen desktop, I have this view I took on Hadrian's Wall when I did a walking holiday there a few years ago:
