And that's just a tiny wavelet! Who is the hapless victim?

Why is the beach so devoid of stones? Does spindrift go there for her weekends?
Looks like surf to me. What's the sport called, Gyro?

To be fair, most of the beach available was pretty stony as the tide was almost completely in. But we have very sandy beaches here in Cromer, so it's only the 'upper' bit of the beach that holds all the hard stuff.
Yeah, there was a bit of surf. The good thing about kayaking is you don't have to have as bigger swell/wave as you do for board surfing. Even on a moderate swell of 3-5 feet, it feels bigger. And the waves were fairly powerful anyway. You catch the wave as it crests, then turn into the face to surf along; not quite the same technique as 'ridiing' it with a board.
My 'yak, which is a proper surf kayak with a fin and leg straps and everything, can do waves of 10 feet or above, but I haven't gone any further than about 8 or so at present. The other thing about it is you can climb the face of wave and have fun when you paddle OUT as well. It's hard work, but driving into the surf and then shooting over a wave just before it foams and crashes down onto you - at one point when you pop over the whole 'yak is flying above the sea - is bloody exhilirating !

I think that all the hair makes you too top-heavy, mate. It looks like good excersise though, once you get going.

It actually gets blown backwards and acts as a sort of tea-tray spoiler. Like on a Porsche 911.

What a great image! Obviously that is not something I would have to worry about these days.

I love sea kayaking. When we first tried it in Maine we kept at it until it got too dark.

There are a good number of ocean kayakers out on the Atlantic beaches where I grew up. I could (and have) watched them for hours. Have never tried. Those seemingly little waves can pack some punches. Thanks G.
