I'm half way through The Two Towers, Annie. Had to quit last night due to sleepiness. Good stuff!

I own the expensive extended boxed set (more than $100 to buy!) but I refuse to open it until I finally buy a giant plasma TV.

I think that would be worth waiting for. There is so much fabulous detail that one is tempted to freeze-frame almost everything. The hobbit houses and the elf kingdom alone could absorb me endlessly, and the panoramas frequently seem three-dimensional.

I was amused to discover that my brother owns the boxed set as well, even though we have nothing in common. However, he does have the plasma screen that covers half of the wall.

The end of the Two Towers is a cliff hanger! It will have to wait until tomorrow.

Are you watching the extended versions, Bixabella, they're so much better than the short versions!
I was reading the new Empire magazine last night when I thought of a film to recommend to Tilly... argh!

I don't know which versions I'm watching, Annie. I'm viewing the Veoh ones online. They're all in eight parts and at least the first seven of those parts are 25+ minutes long -- so at least three hours long apiece. Are there even longer versions?

Taking a much-needed break after completing part three (of 8 parts) of The Return of the King.
Jeez, this thing just goes on & on & on & on, doesn't it? This part heavily features Pipkin, one of the most annoying characters ever to occupy celluloid.
Vast amounts of time are taken up by Significant Looks, and the battles are starting to run together.
Oh yeah, and partway up that loooooong stone stairway, Frodo has turned into Fred C. Dobbs.

Pipkin?

Pipkin is a hobbit -- friend of Merry (the guy who played Charlie in "Lost").
Pipkin is the one who picks up that crystal ball thing, then Gandalf has to ride like the wind with him to Gondor.
Or maybe I have his name wrong.
I finally finished watching it all tonight. It's a pretty magnificent piece of movie making.

Pippin, aka Pereguin Took.
K, you're SERIOUSLY waiting for a plasma screen just to watch a movie like that ? Christ ..

Young Victoria! I'm watching it right now -- just finished part one. The costumes! The settings! The performances. This is wonderful stuff. If you want to watch it online, go here and choose #9 (ZShare -- 78% said work). You will have to endure a couple of those pesky anti-piracy notices, but the clarity is perfect.

Did I suggest "The Widow of St Pierre"? I quite liked it.
Also a documentary that isn't doom and gloom is "Who killed the electric car?" And another one I am desperate to see is that documentary about how Cuba coped without petrol.

Pippin, aka Pereguin Took. K, you're SERIOUSLY waiting for a plasma screen just to watch a movie like that ? Christ .. I can wait. If you knew how much I despise seeing a movie in video, you would understand how I need to diminish the pain as much as possible. Don't forget that I see at least 150 movies on a REAL screen every year. (And my company reimburses every last euro to me, since the annual cost of my two unlimited movie cards is less than than the ceiling for refunds of cultural expenses by the employee committee.)
