Why do people not like ginger?
The taste is indeed quite unusual, at least for our Western palates, but it is used in many ways -- ginger snaps, ginger ale, gingerbread, etc. Do you people who don't like ginger dislike it in any form, or just when it is strong, like used fresh in cooking or as candied ginger?
Is it too strong? Does it just taste weird? What is wrong with it?
(I would probably have a hard time answering the same questions about some of the rare things that I do not like -- like any sort of dried fruit.)

I do not like ginger biscuits, ale, cake or candied ginger. I find it abhorrant. But knowing it is nutritionally good I often force myself to eat fresh ginger when it is cooked in curries, Thai or Japanese dishes and I can (applying willpower) drink ginger tea. I cannot say exactly why I dislike it so much.

I'm the opposite -- I adore ginger. I love the taste and the smell and really, nothing ever has quite enough ginger flavor for me.

There is a luxury soap that I like that's made from the ginger flower.

We grow ginger in the garden. It is not the edible kind but it does have nice flowers in August. Perhaps I should make soap incorporating the flowers.

Last night at the fundraiser I attended there were these tiny tuna burgers that had ginger mayonnaise on them. Couldn't be that difficult to concoct.

Have not yet found it in a form i did not like. Which reminds me, it's summer and I haven't yet made one of my favorite summer drinks, the Moscow Mule - Vodka, Ginger Beer and a large wedge of lime - it's traditionally served in a copper mug. Long before my Mule days, my Dad used to make me homemade ginger beer - it was fabulous. Another favorite is Chocolate Covered Ginger - available from several chocolatiers here (and I would guess elsewhere).
I do a fair bit of Indian and Asian style cooking so I use the fresh form quite a bit.

When I was eating a dinner of 'freezer surprise' the other night, I discovered that it had numerous slices of ginger in it, so I quickly forgave it for not being at all what I wanted to eat.
It made me realize what a strange thing ginger is. I frankly feel that it does not go well with most dishes, but I like to find the ginger in the dish, if you find that comprehensible. When I eat ginger by itself (candied or pickled ginger), I quickly find the taste overwhelming, yet I continue to eat it. The attraction is irresistible for some reason. Recently in Avignon, one of the theatres was serving 'fresh gingerade' to the people waiting, and my god, it nearly burned my mouth off, but it was wonderful.
Ginger does something to me.

I love ginger, I used it for one of my chicken dishes. The Pork sounds great. I have never had ginger beer. I'll have to try it.
