Well now I am interested to know the price here. I expect I will have no problem finding it but have not ever thought to check on the price. I will report back on the price only, I full heartedly believe I would not enjoy it.
It will be interesting to see if you end up purchasing a second jar as Mick suspects you might.

I looked at a few Canadian websites, and the price appears to be C$5.99 for a jar of 125g. My jar is 250g!

Canadians are quite frugal and will spread it thinly as per the instructions.

Sorry guys....there is only one spread for toast and that is BOVRIL! It is the Real McCoy. No yeast fungus shit. Just beef in all its goodness. Sorry you wasted your Euros Kerouac.

I'm afraid salted butter or unsalted butter and blackcurrant jam are the cards I'll play in the debate as to what is best to spread on toast.

So today at breakfast I had my first taste of dynamite marmite . I had read a review that made me think I was going to be disappointed www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/marmite-chilli-flavour-review-b1802454.htmlWell I don't know what they had, maybe there is a quality control problem ? Anyway - I have a high tolerance/ love for hot spicy flavours and disagree with the review , yes its certainly not blow your brains out spicy but it certainly packs a punch. Verdict - YES YES YES !!

Have you tried Marmite XO? No - I just looked it up - on a mission now to find it

On a whim I looked up recipes for making marmite. Way too complicated and complex to justify going through the trouble only to discover it's unpalatable. Do any of you Brits know anyone who makes their own homemade version of it?

Not me.

It's some sort of yeast by-product, isn't it?

It is called "yeast extract."

The recipe I read called for Brewers yeast and recommended trying to obtain "beer scum' or top fermentation from a micro brewery.

Can you order it through Amazon Casi?
Making your own seems several steps too far.

Mick, we try and avoid using Amazon if at all possible. Long story but basically a series of screw ups and unsatisfactory service with them.
I'm sure I could find it from another source. It's really not a high priority. And, I'm certainly not going to try and make it. Sooner or later I'll get to try it. Maybe when "all this" is over I will eventually make my way to the UK and have a proper marmite experience. Then, you can take me on a tour of Kew Gardens.

I'm sure Mick would take you to Kew Gardens with a hamper of thinly-spread Marmite sandwiches, then show you the most spectacular plants to distract you from the taste.

Marmite and chocolate seems a no to me but I would try it.

The day after Easter you can stock up like a fiend. It will be half off then -- maybe more if the entire nation runs screaming in horror away from it. Personally, I am thinking of it as El Mole del Reino Unido.

What's that other thing? Cadbury creme eggs? I think that Cadbury and Marmite should slug it out. Easter is right around the corner.

That is so very nice of you to offer Mick. I don't know about being a woman of wealth and taste (as in the Rolling Stones lyrics of "Sympathy For the Devil"). But, it is after all, the thought that counts. And, when the time comes, I will certainly take up your offer. If only, "the time" will come, soon.

That is so wrong. But since a North American country has invented bacon ice cream, I guess it's only fair.
