What a beauty Mick! May not be red but it's just gorgeous. I like the tangerine shade of the Canna too!

Oh I wish I had one! Would suit my garden. Have to ask at the Garden shop over the weekend.

Mick, that is a completely satisfying knockout of color, form, & texture combination ~ just brilliant!
You really are an artist.

Tod, look up Fuchsia paniculata and also Fuchsia paniculata x arborescens.
None of the pictures I found have panicles as long as the ones on your bush, but I suspect they're all in the same family.
Have you asked at a horticultural agency or a plant nursery in your area?

Not Buddleia?

Definitely not Buddleia. I suspect bixa has nailed the ID, even though it looks nothing like any fuschia I know to me.

My hibicus, which is actually two different plants in the same pot, continues to frustrate me. The bigger of the two plants is blooming like crazy -- at least a half dozen flowers today with at least another 20 buds on the way. That's pretty good for a small plant no more than a metre high. But it is growing very few new leaves, which makes it look a bit pitiful. The second, smaller, plant is refusing to bloom but it has slightly more leaves. I know it is all my fault because last year the two plants were getting too big but the stems were all floppy instead of becoming woody. So I cut them back quite a bit and have not been forgiven.

Thanks Bixa and Mick. I will take a flower and a leaf to the plant nursery over the weekend and see if they agree with your findings.

Superb! I love the way the petals go from violet to cream so beautifully. Dahlias are wonderful flowers.

When my mother didn't have time to garden, she would plant some sweet peas because they would fend for themselves and never disappoint.

Thanks, Tod. I wish I could figure out the formula of how to give it more sun without burning it. It's underneath the roof edge of the carport facing the sunny section of the patio. I keep turning and turning it in an attempt to get an upright, non-leaning plant.

Bixa I could be 100% wrong about Anthuriums but all the ones here are indoors or on a very shaded patio. Looks like the do not want direct sun.....Mick?

Pansies - Mr.Todd's favourite flower. You have given me an idea. On Monday we discard all the bush bean plants after harvesting a fourth and final amount of green beans. A huge bowl full every time. I can see there will be no more flowers so no more beans - I think I will replace them with pansies! This lovely rose, Beach Girl, made an appearance this morning after the rain.
