There is nothing quite like a tree bursting with cherry blossoms. The bees must be harvesting like crazy!

Our wisteria started to bloom just before we had 3 mornings of frost so almost everything dried up and turned gray. I cut them off but it doesn't seem to have helped. It's an old wisteria that flowers several times during the summer though so perhaps it will bloom again.

How delightful! The only time I saw Irises' in every conceivable colour was in the Bois de Vincennes. There was a particular garden set aside for these fabulous blooms.

Tod, those are Dutch irises, the bearded irises are just opening these days. Yes, htmb. In my garden this afternoon. The peony opened yesterday.

The two small rhododendrons are blooming this year for the first time. The big pink one and the azalea next to it are among the few plants that were in the garden when we bought the house.

Looks fabulous, you are easily two weeks ahead of us here in the drippy rain forest.

That azalea is blooming its head off! Whatagain, the middle picture is a pink dogwood -- is the blurry picture at the end the same kind of tree, i.e., a white dogwood? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornus

Peering at Whatagain's last picture again, I'm wondering if it isn't a Japanese magnolia. Drum roll, please ~ my Aztec lily bloomed! I've had this plant for a good dozen years & it's been moved from house to house and here and there around this patio. This year it got placed in an east-facing bed & told, "There you are. Do something." The flower is huge in this new location. I only wish the stalk had grown a little taller. hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/aztec-lily-sprekelia-formosissima/

Thanks, Mick! I'm awfully pleased. It's bloomed in the past, but never with such panache. The "cross piece" petals are eight inches total across!

Magnificent display of colour Kerouac!
Whatagain - your azalea is truly spectacular. My azalea hedge puts out flowers in amongst the leaves so never looks that good.
Bjd - Those Bearded irises you showed us are exactly what I saw in Parc Floral many years ago. It means that they are giving a display right now!
Bixa - All I can say is wow and wow again! What a special flower.

There are two kinds of azaleas here, Tod. One is like Whatagain's or mine (the last picture in 3314 -- the red bush beside the rhododendron), which keeps its small leaves all year but the blooms essentially cover everything in springtime. The others, lose their leaves and are covered with flowers which disappear as the leaves grow.

That Aztec Lily is striking, how large is the bloom?

Fumobici, from the tip of one horizontal petal to the the tip of the other is eight inches! I hope it finally gets going good in that location so that I might remove the readily produced offset bulblets from the parent plant to share. source If we ever have another anyport get-together, I figure bringing the bulblets would make me a star.

Stunning displays all !!
Your hard work seems to have really paid off BJD.
I'm thinking that your rhododendrons may be some type of dwarf hybrid based on my memory of them being large shrubs.
On a personal note, I have always preferred the single blooming iris versus the bearded variety.
When do the peonies bloom?
Bixa, I'm thrilled with your Aztec lily finally blooming. While I'm not really mad about red in the garden, one can't deny this beauty showing off. Do you have to stake it from falling? I would just as a precaution.
I also loved seeing a pink dogwood that Whatagain posted. We had a long row of them in N.Y. that my father planted and were his pride and joy.
I have seen a scant few dogwoods here in NOLA. Very hit and miss mostly due to the heat. A client of mine had one and it did quite well.
