Many perennials in our gardens are coming up but only one is blooming, I think it is a Helleborus, really pretty lavender petals. Our neigbour has gardens full of daffodils and tulips. It has been quite cool the past few weeks that we have not been able to plant any of the annuals we bought. We keep them in the garage at night to keep them away from the frost! We hope to fill our pots and flower beds by Friday when the temperatures are forecasted to be back to normal.

Yes, indeed ~ you must be more than ready for Spring!
You say your neighbor has Spring bulbs already blooming. Is your garden in a cooler micro climate because of being above the lake?

Yes Mick! I am really looking forward to digging my hands into the dirt of my annual planter boxes! I also have 2 chocolate cherry tomato plants that I have been rotating in the sunshine by my patio doors waiting to be planted outside.
Bixa, the only bulb plants I have in my gardens are iris, they are up but they bloom later. Our neighbour has lush, beautiful gardens we are amateurs! It is nice having their incredible gardens to gaze over at!
Gardening at the lake is different from gardening in the city. I think the winds off the water and the sun reflecting off the water make a difference from gardening in the city. Whatever extreme we may face, high/low temperatures or rain/drought seem different by the lake versus the city. I think that is why all of my hostas and day lilies do so well out here, they are hardy.

Wow ~ the sambucus has exploded. Having that purple beauty along with fat yellow roses in your garden must be bliss. Everything else is equally gorgeous. Your columbines are as impressive as any orchid. The plant in the 4th & 5th pictures from the bottom -- is it a type of hydrangea? Very pretty, whatever it is.

Lovely roses, Lugg. I really like that black sambucus (elderberry) but know that it becomes huge so have not planted one. My columbines are finished for the season. There is certainly something to be said for close-ups of flowers with a good camera.

Thanks guys

Yes Bixa - it is a climbing variety of hydrangea . I planted it at exactly the same time as the sambucus but it takes a few years to come into its own.
Bjd - I really like that black sambucus (elderberry) but know that it becomes huge so have not planted one.
It does and can do --this is the first year I have not pruned it back. If I am still living here ( which I doubt) I will certainly hack it back at the end of Autumn , once the birds have finished feeding on its fruit.

Wow ~ nature has blessed your area, Kimby! Just now saw the wild orchid. Does that grow in the ground? The other plants are as lovely as any cultivated garden plant. Things like that mariposa lily just kill me -- so delicate, yet not the least bit coddled.
Absolutely beautiful show in your yard as always, Cheery. Are the true blue flowers in the first picture Himalayan poppies? The Salvia & the Pelargonium have really lush colors. I see your Japanese maple is thriving -- nice! I love the last picture, which is such a brilliant use of space, hardscaping, pots, etc.
