Clearly, up here in the chilly Northern forest, we are running weeks behind most of you here. I've got a couple of Daffodils and hellebores, a few Forsythia, and not a lot else yet.

That shrub is a loropetalum, a member of the witch-hazel family. Also called fringe flowers. I have others in the garden but that one is the biggest and nicest because its leaves stay dark. I have two older varieties and the leaves are more greenish. They come with pink or red flowers on dark leaves, but I also learned there is one with green leaves and white flowers.

Beautiful bjd! We thought we were having an early spring, but my husband has just come in from shoveling about 10 cm of snow we got overnight. Everywhere I look is brilliant white again. I can not wait to see lovely blooms like you have already bjd.

Thanks, Mich. I talked with my son who lives near Ottawa today and he said there had been no snow left and that the river was not frozen, then it snowed again yesterday afternoon and temperatures were around 0°. But at least, by the end of March, you know it won't last too long.

Gorgeous combinations of color and texture, Tod. And your choice of color for the containers just makes the display all the more wonderful.

Getting jealous looking at all your pretty plants.
I’m looking at newly emerging crocus and daffodil greens at my house, and 6” snow at the lake cottage covering my Iris patches and the new daffodil bulbs I planted last fall. They may or may not do well this year.

Nothing even CLOSE to blooming at the lake cottage where we’re getting in our last skiing of the winter.
But I HOPE that my Daphne will be blooming when we return to town in a couple days. It’s the mystery plant that first bloomed when my Dad died, 11 years ago today. (Also an Easter Sunday.)

The Daphne mezereum is blooming heavily and perfuming the air with its really strong fragrance. Meanwhile some of the crocuses are in full bloom, but the sun had left the south side of the house so the purple and yellow ones are in shadow, and even closing up for night. The ruby crocuses are my favorites, and one of the first to bloom, being on the warm west side of the house.
