I was coming back from downtown a couple of hours ago, gazing blankly out the taxi window, when I was suddenly brought up short by the large sign painted on the lintel of a business: GENE-FARM
After a few seconds thought I realized it was a pharmacy (farmacia) that carried generic (generico) products & that someone thought that would be a clever name for the place.
It gave my little English-as-mother-tongue brain a turn, though.

You know ~~ non-name brand products, such as store brand aspirin instead of Bayer's or prescription drugs which can be sold more cheaply than their Pfizer or whatever counterparts.

In French pharmacies, there is a notice saying that to receive full refund of the price of medicine on one's health plan, one must accept the possible substitution of generic medicines at the discretion of the pharmacist.
There are many public service announcements informing people that generic medicines have an identical chemical composition as the name brands. This is to try to counteract the reaction of the elderly who say "my medicine is supposed to be a green capsule and you are giving me a yellow pill!"
