Do the French do laundry on Mondays as they do here? Red beans and Rice and lots of laundry.

I don't think there is a traditional laundry day in France, but I may be mistaken. Monday would be logical, of course.

I tipped the washing machine up and could not find proof that the machine itself is leaking. It was somewhat cruddy under there, but luckily I had actually moved the machine and cleaned under it only about 4 or 5 months ago, so it wasn't nearly as horrible as what I saw then.
The drain hose did not seem to be the culprit either.
The only thing that I have noticed is a very small leak in the joint of the hot water heater which is directly above the machine. By small, I mean something like one small drop every 25 minutes. But that can't be causing it because European washing machines do not use hot water -- they heat the water themselves when you have it on a hot water cycle (which is one of the reasons they take forever to do a load). I almost never use the hot water cycle anyway.
Anyway, I am doing another load right now, with carefully arranged paper towels in strategic locations. I'll see what happens this time...

That's a good idea K. That's what I used to do with all the old cars that I've owned at one time or another. Every time I found a leak, I'd put newspaper underneath to see where the drop were coming from and what color liquid it was.
If it is just a leak in a hose (which it could be), or from a joint where the hose connects to the machine it's not that big a deal and you could probably repair it yourself. Actually, I'd repair it for you, but you are a tad too far away...

I know that you are all going to be thrilled to know that I'll be buying a new washing machine, after completely flooding the kitchen tonight.
I don't know exactly why, but I will investigate no farther. A new machine will be more ecological and energy efficient and that's all that counts.

Well, it doesn't matter as much any more, seeing as how you finished the story you were telling us, but ............ the combination of that wet floor and your electric appliance could have spelled curtains for you.
