I am a pinball addict as well, to the extent that when the rock opera Tommy was staged in Los Angeles, I participated in the Pinball Wizard tournament and came in 3rd. I still have a Tommy album autographed by Keith Moon to this day. Pinball! When I was younger, I used to spend an inordinate amount of money in arcades specifically on pinball. To this date, my favourites are The Addams Family, The Twilight Zone, and Medieval Madness. I actually stole a decent amount of time in Venice in order to play an Addams Family machine. Once I get five-grand, that'll be an indulgence. For those of you that are interested, there's a cool museum in Alameda, CA dedicated to pinball, and the second-annual Pacific Pinball Expo coming up in October. It's one of the small perks I have by keeping my overall living expenses low. (In another five years, I'll be completely debt free.) Cas, for a moment I thought this was going to be a thread on the old Catholic practice of buying your way into heaven!

Pinball! I can't resist wasting time playing the silver ball. Although, sadly, you just don't see many machines around these days. A couple of years back I bought a used machine (Dungeons and Dragons - built in 1989) - "for the kids" . Unfortunately, his autograph doesn't look like much.

I don't know if this can be counted as an indulgence or not, but I routinely try to limit the amount of fat I eat so that I can blithely chomp into something high-fat on occasion.

Pinball is fun!
Spindrift, I just about fell over when I read about the 'scissors' thing during the massage. OMG. It makes me want to howl with laughter and shriek in terror at the same time. What an experience.
My indulgences: horseback riding hot tubs/hot springs/saunas sushi

Driving across the country instead of taking the train, even though it costs three times more in tolls and petrol.

I kept thinking of Churchy indulgences as well. But am wondering what expensive foods rikita indulges in – a German indulgence I remember fondly was a wonderful ewe’s milk cheese and artesanal dry saucisson from an organic market in Köln where I also bought a fine spelt bread with nuts and some wonderful cherries, though they weren’t so expensive. Remember it fondly also because it was shared with someone special. Do have some idea of what fatty treats are available in Oaxaca! Kerouac, I’d kill for the French railway system – I love travelling by train. It is pleasant here but the routes are limited. My own indulgences would include a rail trip with my personal picnic of good cheese and saucisson, bread and ripe fruit, and of course some wine, in a wee Duralex tumbler I’d managed to find! Lots of nice things about the Netherlands, but Dutch bread is indifferent at best - so sometimes I'd indulge in a baguette from Bakken met Passie www.bakkenmetpassie.nl - though it is ridiculously expensive in relation to a similar baguette in France or here. Though in the immigrant neighbourhood where I stay when there now, I found a very good Moroccan bakery with excellent wholemeal Maghrebi bread that does have a bit of a crust, and a nice crumb. As for pinball and its descendants, much as I like Tommy and Pinball Wizard as rock opera, not remotely interested.

Maybe I should be posting this in the impulsive spending thread but,is clearly an indulgence as well... I never, ever shop for clothing online and ordered some clothing which just arrived via UPS. I simply cannot justify spending money on superfluous items, but,WTF?

Why is it necessarily superfluous? In most climates and cultures, we do need clothing, and why shouldn't it be attractive? I don't think either of us have "Sex in the City" wardrobes.
Who on earth living in NYC would have the ROOM in their closets for all those clothes?

I simply cannot justify spending money on superfluous items, but,WTF? Funny, Casimira, as I find online clothes shopping to be the anti-indulgence. I am usually more restrained and only buy what I went online shopping for in the first place. Did you buy a fur coat, or something? My indulgence today was of the unhealthy, but oh-so satisfying variety. Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes smothered in in perfectly zippy country gravy from my favorite local dive restaurant. Yum.

Other than maybe a sweater, for a gift at Christmas time for my brother,I had never purchased anything clothing wise for myself online. It was a lovely silk camisole type of garment and was on sale. Definitely,an indulgence. I am not an online shopper and don't think I will become one. It was kind of a fluke, impulsive purchase.
