Pure spite, greed and a huge act of vandalism. I have paid for the cheapest option just to keep my photos alive but yesterday I cancelled my account. I have all my pics backed up here and was not using photo bucket so ...good bye.

No point crying over spilled milk. I suggest checking out the first four threads here: anyportinastorm.proboards.com/board/21/basicsIn the first of those threads (What photo host site ...), you should start with the last page and work back. If people wish to replace their pictures lost to photobucket here and there around the board, the information on how to do that is contained in those threads.

Maybe there is a rationale for knowing the gender of someone who is going to be up close with your bare body. This made me laugh out loud. Gender politics are definitely real. Recently had it come up in my work (legal field). Client did not want 'husband' or 'wife' used in an important legal document being drawn up by them (married couple) because one of the people identifies as gender fluid, and wanted to subsitute 'spouse'. Fine, no problem. Then came time to notarize these documents, said gender fluid spouse produced government ID for the notary which had a completely different first name on it. The notary said, "I can't notarize a document that does not have a matching name..." I do not want to post the names here, but the name was quite possibly the most whitebread American midwest name you can possibly imagine, and the name this person is using now is very new age-y. Anyway, upon being told by the notary that the legal name had to match the name on the legal document, this person became enraged, screamed about a "dead name", threw papers down, yelled and stomped out of the office. Hours later, the dead-name person emailed my colleague and wanted to know how to go about doing a legal name change in the courts. Modern life.

I'm amazed that there are still people who don't find that little detail important after gender reassignment or just any pseudonym. It doesn't come up often, but when it does, it is always for the really important stuff.
I was amused a number of years ago when one of my colleagues was in a store behind the singing star Dalida as she paid for something. Her real name was Iolanda Gigliotti, but my colleague said that the name on her American Express card was "Madame Dalida." Of course, anybody familiar with Dalida would know that she was so recognizable that it would feel silly to ask for identity papers at any time, even if stopped by the police.

There have been a few cases where look-alikes have gotten away with something -- passing a check or an outrageous credit card charge -- because of their close resemblance to famous people. The Madame Dalida your colleague saw could have been an impostor trading on the fact that she looked like the real Iolanda Gigliotti.

This one doesn't pertain to me, but is a case study in bureaucratic idiocy: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/feb/12/home-office-tells-man-101-his-parents-must-confirm-idThis is like the classic jokes about blue zones known for extreme longevity! (the hundred-year-old man or woman having to report to the patriarch or matriarch) A 101-year-old Italian man who has been in London since 1966 was asked to get his parents to confirm his identity by the Home Office after he applied to stay in the country post-Brexit. In what appears to be a computer glitch the Home Office thought he was a one-year-old child. Giovanni Palmiero was told that he needed the presence of his mother and father when he made his application for the EU settlement scheme at an advice centre in Islington, north London.

Yes, I had just read that article. This sort of thing happens regularly because apparently it eats up a huge amount of computer space to allow four digits instead of just two. That was the whole reason for the Y2K scare.

As for idiotic bureaucracy, my mother found a letter from the police in her deceased aunt's mail. She went to the police, who said the aunt had to come by herself as it was a matter concerning only her. My mother asked 'does it have Something to do with her death ?'...

My pet peeves of the week : We spent a week in la foux d allos, a ski resort with hardly any snow then too much wind then too much snow. My wife broke her shoes then in order to restore her confidence we went to do a nice track that neanders in the trees. We went out of the lift took the nice blue that offered itself to our gliding skis and... Met a wall, narrow, steep that i have encountered in some bkack tracks (not the worst parts of those but still) followed by still steep parts. With a snow that was both liquid and icy. Great. We were all disgusted/disgruntled/tired to the bone. Grrr We had to cut short one day to write a mail. Yes a bloody mail. For the health dept. For that we need my wife ID card. Ok. And the id card reader. In belgium, who would take that to holiday. There is another way. With a bank card. Ok. And a bank card reader. In belgium. Argh. Since we had time to kill due to the lifts being closed we tried to register on a site fir a seminar. Took 30 min. Payment rejected. Relogging next day. Password doesnt work. Recovering it. Not working. Creating another username and starting all over again. Grrr. Logging to the school site. We must pay via the site. We discovered we have a hidden child for whom we must pay some fees.we said ok but first we d likd to meet our unknown child. School director telling us we should read her mail to the end. Grrr Eating too much and doing not enough sport. Leaving early the ski station before there was too much snow. Good move. We drove the first 30 kms in more than hour. Then one hour for ghe next 40. Guy in front of us went into a ditch. I guess i gave better tyres. Booked a great hotel with great restaurant for conforting us. Then followed the gps.stupid move. Sent us north no highway and into ghe Alps. Got into snow again and main road closed due a crash. Backtracking. Grrr. Canceling the hotel and restaurant. Grrr. Booked another one much closer. Less great but quite nice. Managed by Belgians. Ah ! And Marie got her first star by the skischool. I did well to tell them ahe was leavjnv early. Nice ! So all things considered, stress, disillusions, loss of money. Just pet peeves.

Isn't this why raclette was invented to console disappointed skiers? Of course, not if you have to drink water with it.

Tonight our hotel/restaurant told us they hold a special event : food will be 'montagnard' like i want that right now 😋😋🤢🤢

That means a lot of charcuterie. Very bad for you. You should go to bed without your dinner.

I think your wife is right. But it is good for anyone to take a break.
If you can't drink wine with fondue or raclette they say to drink tea (or something else warm).

I am drinking a lit of tea nowadays ...
Right now drinking milk. Just woke up and all the cats following me. Opened a bottle found 7 plastic bowls and gave milk to the cohort that was meowing loudly. Now catnapping one for a session of cocooning.
Bitch cat left the room. Cant trust a cat.

Mine is very cuddly. I don't have to catnap her for that.
Please don't give me any unfermented cow's milk, unless you want unpleasant digestive effects. Enjoying some ewe's milk yoghurt now!

In the past 4 hours I have had FOUR upcoming events cancelled between now and next Wednesday. Two jazz concerts (featuring 6 musicians who travelled to Montana for the Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival), an art talk and tour in the University Museum of Art and Culture (that I had arranged for 40 people), and a neighborhood meeting/hearing about a proposed 1000 unit apartment complex that would more than double traffic on our already over burdened road. I’m waiting to hear if the theater production we have Saturday matinee tickets for will also be cancelled...
Although there are as yet NO cases of coronavirus reported in Montana, the University President and Mayor have cancelled all public events. Classes at UM will be online-only when the students get back from spring break.
It will be interesting to see if all this pro-active effort pays off in a less servere outbreak in our fair state. One of only 4 left without known cases.
But meanwhile I’m peeved!

They are probably wise to cancel the events. In lots of places it took just one person to contaminate 50 others at a group event.

i suppose this just sometimes happens, but still is a bit annoying ... wanted to send my mom and my brother and family a little easter greeting. didn't have time to buy and mail something, so ordered some lindt chocolate bunnies and had them mailed directly to them. yesterday afternoon got a message from the shop: they only noticed now they are out of stock (when the package should have been long on its way). now it is too late to get something else in time for easter ...

That's infuriating, Rikita, especially when you have to assume that almost all inventory is on computer.

In France we have seen non stop reports about all of the artisans who have made all sorts of amazing chocolate creations that they can't sell. They'll probably be giving lot of them away next week. As for the big companies like Lindt, Ferrero or Nestlé, the supermarket shelves are practically collapsing under their stuff.

last time i was shopping there was a lot there, too, and already on offer (usually that only happens after easter) - so i hope it is the same tomorrow, as that is the first shopping opportunity i have without agnes (she is at her dad's, now), so i will buy her easter surprises then ... and well, had i gotten the message earlier, i could have bought something at a shop and mailed it, too - just thought having it sent to them directly was going to be easier and safer ...
oh, and on easter sunday i am done fasting, so i will buy some very nice chocolate for myself, too ...

Ha ha… with my wrestling with my filing cabinet and other difficult furniture moving these past few days, I had a few aches which of course made me think "Are these caused by THE VIRUS? But then I just had to replay my recent activities in my mind to realise that it was just a case of rarely used muscles.

my current pet peeve is children who do everything in their power to drag out bed time, who resist every step of the way, as if they truly believe that might lead to them not having to wash or brush their teeth or pick up their toys - as if experience didn't tell them that it will only lead to a cranky mother and no time left for story reading and snuggling or any other things they might wish for before going to bed ... she's only been back since noon today, after three and a half free days for me, and already, i am exhausted again ...
