Got a wonderful scam telephone call today. Roughly went "A law suit has been filed against you, case No xxxx, press 1 to speak to your case officer". At least it makes a change from telling you that someone has spent £600 in a foreign country on your credit card. Sounded like the same vaguely American woman as the credit card one.

What is ghe word for 'bricoler' ? Doing small qtuff at home, clearing the basement, loading the car with garbage or accumulated stuff, moving furniture, putting 40 screws in the wall, etc...

I don't think that English has a word for "bricoler" although a "bricoleur" is a "do-it-yourselfer".

Could also be handyman or DIYer.

I always thought than most handymen wanted to get compensated for their effort. A "bricoleur" works for free -- for his family and friends. They might accept a drink for their efforts.

Either/or -- it can be a paid job, but it's also common to hear people say things such as, "My husband is quite the handyman."

And a bad handyman is a maclotteur, or a mandaille (sp ?) But i think the last o e is Brusseleer (dialect of Bruxelles).
Jeez,can't feel my back...

Good heavens, whatagain! Hope all goes well with that! So, it sounds like what we’d call a “detached retina” in English. I know you’ll have the best of care.

Oh, Whatagain, I am so sorry you have to go through that! Obviously it has to be fixed, but what a recuperation process. Can you get some audio books?

This is one of those mystery conditions to me, whatagain. I can't imagine such things happening except due to an accident, but I know that isn't even necessary. I suppose you'll be wearing an eyepatch? Pirate Whatagain!

Mr. Kimby had a retinal detachment as a complication of cataract surgery. They used laser surgery to reattach the retina during which they sucked all the juice out of his eyeball (vitrectomy).
During recuperation he had to sleep in a specific position to keep the liquid refilling his eyeball from interfering with healing. For many people this position is face-down on a donut pillow. Lucky for him he could sleep on his side, but only one side. We used pillows to keep him from turning in his sleep onto the forbidden side.
After vitrectomy all his floaters were gone, in that eye. He later had the other eye done, but without the retina issues.

I had a very annoying 'floater' situation a few years ago but it finally diminished. I find floaters particulary scary, especially when the opthalmologist says "sorry, we can't do anything about that. Either they go way or they don't."

I must sleep on my back. It depends i suppose on where the retina got breached. And no i don't wear a patch but my eye (only one day) looks like the one from a rabbit that has myxomatose for years... I am bored...
