My nephew, who is visiting, is a "believer" and promoter of Zeitgeist. I am trying to learn what it is, but the way he describes it is
A society where everyone gets what they want, there are sufficient resources in the world to sustain us all. People would work for "the betterment of human kind", there would be no money, religion or politics.
What disturbs me most, is he REALLY believes that this is possible.
Have you come across Zeitgeist? What is your understanding of this?

I think I should put on his straight jacket and never let him out the house again.

Wikipedia explains it differently -- perhaps there's a movement using the same term? Regardless, I don't think he's crazy .......... things can change. Look what happened in your country and in mine.

I did a Wiki on the movie, and it is FULL of conspiracy theories. 9/11, christianity and the US reserve bank are what rules the world, there a 3 people in the world that run the world and every president is on their payroll.
THe very idea and thought of everyone getting what they want and not having to work, begs the question, who will do the work? The answer is machines, who will build the machines? machines
The theory is that everyone should have everything they want, so I could not work a day in my life every again and have every single thing that I want, including internation travel (yes please) as much as I want.
I don't think so.

So who are these 3 people that run the world then? I read about that movie but was so put off by the conspiracy theories in it that I couldn't be arsed to watch it.
As for your nephew's ideals about Zeitgeist I don't think that will happen. We'll much rather end up in a mixture of "1984" and "Brave New World".

I saw the film Zeitgeist and there are plausible things in it, ie: that Judaism and Christianity basically "stole" from Egyptian mythology. The parallels are too numerous to discount - and, given the history of mankind, we know that every culture on earth borrows from other cultures once trade is established.
The other has to do with the establishment of the Federal Reserve Bank. No conspiracy story there - it's the truth that the much of the world's wealth is in the hands of a privately owned banking consortium.
But a lot of what was said about 9/11 I do believe is pure speculation. The other sections of the film presented facts. The part about 9/11 had far too much speculation in it for me to give it much heed.

I know a lot of people who had better not get what they want.

Interesting-I had never heard about this before. I do know that Zeitgeist would not have gotten me to finish med school...few of us are THAT motivated without any external pressure.
How old is your nephew though? When I was younger, I thought anarchy was all the rage. I grew to know better.

palesa, the film is interesting, and there are some points in it that are food for thought - but I would also watch it with a healthy dose of scepticism and draw your own conclusions. I agreed with some of the conclusions, and others, I felt were pure hogwash.

Thanks Aussie, I think in order for me to be able to have any kind of debate with him, I will need to watch the movie. At first, I was reluctant to watch the movie (not sure why), but I think it would add value.
He is 19, so I suppose we all had our "things" when we were young.
