I've drunk really bad coffee and really good coffee. But I prefer Nescafe.

And yet when you go to a café, it is nearly always just " café de Colombie." Colombian coffee can be some of the finest.

I don’t drink alcohol all that much anymore. That may change in the coming weeks. I was thrilled to find an unforgotten, unopened split of boxed Pinot Grigio in the door of my fridge. I think I bought it before leaving for France in August 2019. Tastes just fine.

A moka (stovetop espresso). Will pick up a box of white wine while I'm out buying cat litter. Which white wine is supposed to have a scent of cat pee, Chenin blanc?

Sauvignon blanc.

I like (most) Sauvignon blanc. Guess I'm used to cat pee. It is a rather pungent odour, even with a neutered female cat, and I am vigilant about changing her box. But un-neutered toms have a stink that can last for years after the tom is no longer there. Evidently it attracts pussy cats as well as marking their territory against other toms. I've heard "pony piss" as a term for a truly horrid wine, like "La Villageoise". lostinwine.net/la-villageoise-ou-le-vin-qui-te-met-a-la-cuisine/ Now they are selling the stuff as "cooking wine"...

Lagatta - to continue the wine theme of Robertsons VS the plonk I got from Namaqua wine makers and palate spoiling: My favourite white at the moment is "Early Mist Rising" from Vrede en Lust Estate. It is an off-dry Riesling. Their focus was mainly on red wines - Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot, before concentrating on Riesling grapes. They have received many accolades over the years, some as memorable as when Rust en Vrede was chosen by Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner. In addition Rust en Vrede was nominated as the first South African red wine in the top 100 Wines Of The World in 2000.
During one of our visits to France we took a trip out of Mullhouse and spent a day in Eguisheim. There during a wine tasting I totally fell in love with Grand Cru Eichberg Riesling 2014 from the wine estate of Jaeffelin. Eguisheim is in France but very close to the border with Germany. I'm sure when we return to Paris I will be able to buy several bottles from a good wine cave.

I bought a box of Muscadet this afternoon. I would have preferred some red, but since 80% of the French prefer red, of course it was sold out. There is no lack of bottles of everything at the stores, but I find it easier to control consumption with a box. I partially fill a carafe and that sets my limit for dinner whereas when I have a complete bottle, I finish it too often, not necessarily with the meal but as the evening wears on.

I’m thrilled that I was able to trade a few empty bottles with interesting shapes I’d been saving for a bottle of homemade limoncello. It will be a nice treat to enjoy over the next couple of weeks (or days ).

If you can make it last a couple of weeks & you start now making your own, your batch will be ready about the time the bartered bottle runs out. Limoncello is super easy to make. wholefully.com/homemade-limoncello-food-gift/What's in my glass is ice water. Usually I'm happy with any water at any temperature, but it's been so hot lately that ice has become an essential ingredient in my house.

Obviously not here yet, though the weather is very pleasant and the buds large. I'm sipping water now too, very early in the morning. Livia has gone out on the front balcony and roofs next door, and I'll wait until she returns or call her back to go back to bed for a bit. The water here is very good. I won't have coffee until I "really" get up. Decided to stop listening to the radio so early in the morning.
Tod, I have friends from Colmar, which is not far from Mulhouse. That region, and the German region just across the Rhine, are very pleasant from the little I've seen. Nowadays many people commute across the border.

That looks like a nice, easy recipe, but I don’t actually like it enough to make a batch. It’s just satisfying to occasionally get something free from my ex, who makes "the best, most perfect limoncello from the finest lemons, grown by our friend whose great-uncle is a canonized saint." Plus, it’s nice to have a little something to sip after dinner at this moment in time. High quality bourbon would be better, but I’m out.

The wine stocks grown lower as each day passes….and now we are faced with an even greater challenge. Stretch the vino to even thinner lengths! Thinking about the hard tack in my drinks bar I remember I have a 3/4 bottle of Singleton's whisky. That single malt stuff that's supposed to be the real deal. Over ice it can make for a long slow slurp instead of chucking it down like cheap wine. I prefer to have a whisky and soda and stretch it even further. Another bottle on my bar counter with only one tot missing is a green bottle of Absynthe. I tried it and really did not enjoy it. Switching to a beer is no problem for me and I even enjoy some apple cider called Savanna.

Bottle of something pink that one of my nieces bought me ages ago, probably some sort of rosé. The bottle is in the recycling bin and I can't be bothered to go look...hic.

i bought a glas of wine along with the steak at the shop downstairs (carried it upstairs in a christmas themed mug, as a wine glas and a plate is more difficult to carry), but forgot to ask what exactly it was, as i just requested something that goes well with the food. tastes nice, though ...
