Extremely happy right now! I have been wanting a beer for days, but wanted good beer. I just got my first order from an artesanal beer business & am drinking something called 951 Ambar. It is utterly delicious. Really, I'm reluctant to say this, but awfully close in quality to a Belgian beer.

Thus is is still warm in an ZA autumn. Not surprised. One bevvie that is rather new here (or a memory from long ago), is good DRY cider. The farmers used to make it here but for some reason the government clamped down on the ancestral practice rather than regulating it, so many old trees of Norman and Breton origin were ripped out. "Legal" cider was sweet and nasty, and had a reputation for causing headaches, even in moderaton. The quality has greatly increased in recent years but still too sweet for my taste. Now there are some very dry ones, incluing a nice cloudy one - Klaus (from the name of the yeast, not some German guy). untappd.com/b/alma-compagnie-de-cidre-klaus/2453835

The days of quaffing a couple of glasses of vino have long gone. …….the gin is all gone. The vodka has a few drops left and the whisky bottle shows a steady fall. Still available a few bottles of beer lie sideways in the fridge but they too are an endangered species. I feel for the chain smokers as they too have been left high and dry.

I was going to have a gin tonic but I ran out of gin halfway through pouring the first glass. So I added some white rum instead. Then I had to have a rum tonic to finish the can of Schweppes. Actually, it was better than I expected. Normally, I would have gone to vodka tonic, but I have no vodka at the moment.

I had once a fantastic vodka with honey. Given by a polish supplier. Superb.
I had a chilian cabernet sauvignon. Very good. Tonight i all they a rioja or an argentinian. The argentinian comes from a bodega that was 1 km away from a hôtel we slept in in cafayate. Pronounce cafa chatte.
And i had a rum 2 dans ago While watching had boys 2. It makes thé movie even betterave.

I am a big fan of Chillian red wines. Think it was a beautiful deep ruby red merlot that won me over. I'm going to look for that Polish vodka as Those are the best. I keep my bottle in the deepfreeze and it pours like a thick olive oil. I like it best with tomato juice and spices.

A nice hot cup of strong Sumatran Gayoland French Roast coffee. It's a dark roast which I prefer.
The beans are a tad pricey but well worth it and is one of the few extravagances I allow myself these days as I'm not spending much money. And, as I am abstaining from alcohol at the moment, I feel deserving of splurging on it.
(There's no shortage of alcohol here and a lot of people I know are drinking more these days. Some out of boredom, and some because of stress.)
I'm thrilled you found a decent beer that you like Bixa.

I'm also fond of Indonesian coffee, but the place where I usually buy it is closed because it is also a café. I did finish a nice Spanish rosé yesterday - Borsao seleccion.

Gratefully, most cafes remain open here but only for beverages and packaged coffees to go.There is also a limited selection of fresh baked pasteries. The barrista is wearing a mask and one has to maintain social distance before being served. Service is at the doorway so no one can actually enter the café. There's a bottle of hand sanitizer on the counter for customers to use.
In the morning there's a long line down the sidewalk.
I only purchase a bag of beans during the slower times of the day.
I'm awake before they open and prefer making my own coffee at home anyway.
The hours of operation are limited. They open at 8 a.m. and close at 3 p.m.
They seem to be doing quite well even with the limited hours.

I remembered I bought a new bottle of gin a few days ago, and I can hear it calling out to me from under the kitchen sink. Wouldn't want those limes to go bad.

The single malt is a mere drop in the bottle but there is just enough Bell's to allow me a sundowner every evening this weekend. Then it looks like the liquers are next….maybe mixed with soda. What I do have a lot of is brandy. Even found several Aircraft sizes in my kitchen drawer for flambé purposes. Only thing is I really really don't like brandy except in a sauce.

Yes, I also love that coffee and must find another source, as the café where I usually buy it is temporarily closed.
Livia is outside, but that is fine. She never strays far from our garden. It is still a bit cool for me to enjoy coffee on either of the balconies. The leaves were very late this year; they are just filling out now. I'll wait another week to plant flowers and herbs on the balconies.

I'm drinking a smoothie because I wanted something cold that was also borderline snack. It's good, but I made it a little too sweet.

I gagged on the only smoothie sample I was ever offered.
Of course, due very severe childhood cow milk allergies, I'd never tasted anything like that, and in general I' don't like sweets (no friends, they are not the only indulgent, calorific or fatty thing that exists).

Lagatta - Did you choose your cats name because of the meaning? Friends who had a baby daughter a year ago named her Livia. We wanted to know why not Olivia? They said Livia means LIFE. Of course she is only called Livvy now but I suppose in adulthood she will revert back to Livia.

Nicknames are the norm here, in America, and while parents give their babies “real names” like James and William and Catherine, they have no intentions of actually calling an infant or toddler by that name. Jimmy becomes Jim and finally has to demand people call him James if that’s what he prefers. My niece was named after a great-aunt Catherine, but from day one was called Katy. (My sister had to re-name her dog “Sadie” because she had “used the best name for a dog!”). So Katy it was, til 8th grade when Katy insisted on being called Kate. Now at 28 she has chosen a new gender-neutral name that honors her deceased Dad’s Irish background: Korrigan. And Catherine is their “dead name”. Yes, we have to learn new pronouns, too. Mr. Kimby was born a William, but never has gone by that name, except on official documents, And phone book listings. The advantage to this is that if anyone calls looking for William, we know it’s not anyone we want to talk to!

Whatagain - In nearly every instance a Childs name has an added "ie" onto it as a baby form of the name. In Afrikaans a baby is of course a 'babetjie' so I guess most of the blame can be put their way. My two grandsons, Tanen and Weston are only called Tan and Westy. But Weston inherited a nickname while he was a baby and it has stuck with his grandad, my husband, and that is "Suger" now reduced to Shugs(shoogs.). Makes me wonder if one day when he is an adult and very famous sportsman, the TV announcer will announce him as "Here he comes, the legend "Shugs XXXX" in his second appearance on this famous golf course!!
Grandparents dream big dreams for their grandkids don't they…...

Actually in France, quite a few names get warped into two syllable nicknames like Dodo for Dominique, Nono for Arnaud, Momo for Mohamed, Bébert for Robert or things like Mado for Marie-Dominique or Maïté for Marie-Thérèse. There are plenty more. I disapprove like Whatagain.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I wanted the name Gabriella if it was a girl, but then figured that would be turned into Gaby, so decided against it.
And on the topic of this thread, we drank a bottle of Listrac-Médoc today, mostly at lunch with company who had to drive home, so one glass each, and finished the bottle this evening.
