Maybe an interview, hmmm? Hmmmm, very unlikely, really not my style. I think that would be too intrusive somehow.I much prefer to just admire her style from afar.

THis is the town I went to school at. Well, the lake the town is situated at. The ferry is kind of a trademark of that town.

Mucho local color going on right now. Day before yesterday, the neighbors across the road & down a little hill from me had a front-loader going up and down part of the huge empty space across from their house. Yesterday the mystery was solved as they strung up tarps and decorated beneath them. Today it's party time. The first band was enthusiastic, bad, and loud, so I decided it was a good time to go to the grocery store. Ginger likes to accompany me, but I didn't get him out of here fast enough. He was outside when they set off so many fireworks at one time that the smoke completely obscured their house. He shot inside so fast, his feet barely touched the floor. Right now there's a good and very jolly band. Since I'm looking down the hill, it's charming and comical to see the miniaturized-by-distance people jigging up and down in time to the music.
Whether or not I remain charmed will depend on how long the music goes on into the night.

SORE SUBJECT! (still trying to get the ubc thing to work)
The music has changed since I wrote the above and my windows are thumping and buzzing with the bass. Can you feel me getting un-charmed?

I watched a movie with the sound up high, closed all the windows and put a fan on high speed, abd wedged the metal front door so it would stop buzzing. Finally the music stopped. As I opened the house back up, I looked down at the party house. It was pitch black down there, including (glory be) the prison camp intensity street light in front of their house that has plagued me since it was installed. There were some men stumbling around in the dark, apparently only one of whom had a flashlight. It was quiet.

Well, it's hard to begrudge people these kind of monster parties. They're such a part of the culture and I've certainly enjoyed my share of them. I even felt badly for them with it started to lightening and strongly blow rain last night. That didn't stop the party, though. I was relieved when it was all over.

This woman was selling jewelry and incense at the craft market last weekend. I asked if I could photograph her, and she was fine with it as long as I didn't want her to pose for the picture.

None of the local color present on my last trip to Miami Beach were in evidence on this recent trip. I wonder do they all go North for the summer?

A little parade just came down the street to celebrate the Fête Nationale tomorrow. The celebrants followed the little Montmartre tourist train which was going to bed for the night. The participants clearly represent the new France instead of the old traditional model.

The Hmong families' stalls at the farmers' market are artfully arranged mounds of produce: And then there's the Russian "babushka" ladies: A card table with a bowl of cucumbers and a pan of onions...oh, look, she has some rhubarb there too! (Wouldn't you think the abundance of the Hmong produce would shame the babushkas into getting a little more creative?)

I kinda like the babushka lady's little display -- the classic farm wife's personal plot produce. Here's one I grabbed today. The guy was moving at a pretty good clip, so I barely managed to shoot him through the trees. This is not uncommon -- vendors carrying piles of furniture and calling out their wares as they toil up and down hill.

GREAT pictures! You can imagine how much I enjoyed seeing these. The blue girl is beyond adorable. I get the Booker float, but in the picture right above that -- is that supposed to be Everett? Fabulous costumes and it looks like y'all had great weather for the event.

Thanks Bixa...yes, that is The late great piano legend, James Booker, and the previous one is indeed Poet Laureate Everette Maddox. We commissioned art students from the local Academy of Arts to make the paper mache heads. There are several others, but, that day it had rained relentlessly, and it wasn't until 6pm that evening that the clouds moved out and we marched. Therefore, they could only get a couple of the heads out from upstairs in time for the parade, those two,and the Man of Carrollton, dressed as an Oil spill cleanup worker on the title float. We pride ourselves on being irreverent. That young girl grew up next door to me....
