I hadn't had any major earworms for a long time, but recently I have been plagued regularly by the last song heard on the radio as I walk out the door. It is even more irritating when you know only about 8% of the lyrics.

I love this thread. Today I had Yakkity Yak doing the rounds of my tiny mind this morning. ;D Now I have a mental image plus the sound of Arnold Schwartzeneger (sp?) sitting in the airplane singing that song in Twins. Sheesh ~~ an earworm with an accent!

Oh yeah ~~ forgot to mention that this has been my earworm for the past couple of days, along with parts of "Make Me Down a Pallet on the Floor".
It's a lovely song, beautifully sung, but I defy anyone to have a mind pure enough to not misinterpret the lyrics.

I'd rather you made me down some cheap red! (that may prove to be purely a Scottish joke/play on words)

Hmmmmmmm. Now I have something to mull to maybe muffle the earworm. A great deal of traditional US Southern phraseology comes from England and Scotland, some of it probably pretty archaic, by now. I wonder if the make me down phrase might not have identical meanings to you & to Mississippi John Hurt. Waddaya think? The reason I had that earworm in the first place is that I had these two versions back to back on my tablet, & the list cycled through twice during a long bus ride ~~

Not too bad a one to have Bixa you have to admit....
I've got a Wilco song I heard on NPR yesterday afternoon burned on my brain:
(And, found out during the interview that the song is a tribute to George Harrison, something I never knew before.)

Can't see the Wilco song for the moment, as I'm using a tablet with filched wifi. (installation at new house #%&*ed up). I really, really want to get the ever-repeating scraps of "Sweet Baby James" out of my head!

So there I am in my favorite glass & plastics store, filled with joy over finding the perfect container for under the sink & minding my own business. They were playing some kind of contemporary music way too loud, but it was unfamiliar to me & I was managing to tune it out. Then, as I'm standing in line to pay, on comes Let It Be. It is with me yet. (I probably shouldn't have sung along, further cementing it into my little brain.)

I have a dear friend who out of the blue will call me and leave a voice mail of some silly ditty. Sometimes he'll change the words to the song, other times it's the true lyrics. It's really quite funny and always makes my day when he does it. I've saved most all of them. Today it was "Do You Know The Way to San Jose?". Go figure... Anyway, as a result, I have an ear worm of that song which will probably last all day....

I played that silly fox video a couple of times for the four year old and now I can't get it out of my head.

Yes, the fox has been active in my mind as well -- so maybe it really is the new Gangnam Style.

This one will not go away. Other earworms have intruded, but they don't have the staying power to drive this out. It's the chorus part that's on an endless loop in my head: da da da da da da da da daa da da Open at your own risk ~

Well, I was immune to it. I'm still wondering what does the fox say? I remember foxes from when I was living in south London, that's why I found the song so puzzling. Once you've heard one you never forget it.

This is for Rikita: the song is Heart of Glass I can't imagine that fox thing turning into an earworm. ~?~ Lugg, I turned on the Katy Perry video just long enough to realize that yes, it could worm its way into my brain, so snapped it off again. I'm pleased to announce that my previous weeks-long earworm has been replaced by (Rikita, it's B Boy Baby by Mutya Buena featuring Amy Winehouse)

I'm always amazed at how a song I haven't hard in eons will pop into my head without any prereference to it or anything... This evening while out walking the dog I thought of The Loving Spoonful, "Nashville Cats". A song I always liked btw, but, have no idea how I conjured it up.

Dammit! Just looked up the thread & Casimira's most recent entry is going to be stuck in my head all day.
Perhaps it will drown out my own entry, one which won't surprise anyone who's been reading the Local Color thread. This song has a pronounced ick factor, considering that it's always performed by someone with a Man Voice. The first version is the original or at least the first I remember the popular. The second version -- ohmylord! -- popped up even though I have Safe Search activated on YouTube. It's lovingly dedicated to Kimby and MUST be watched.

Saw it!!!! hee hee hee... I also made the same mistake you did by listening to my own post prior to yours, and, what do you think I was singing this a.m. as I was feeding the cats early this a.m. ? (At least it was somewhat thematic and seemingly appropriate!)

Almost missed your "dedication", Bixa. Thanks!
Since Mr. Kimby & I started watching new-to-us GLEE on DVD this week, we have lots of ear worms to choose from. I've been humming and whistling along with "Don't Stop Believing!".
Fortunately it's a good song to ski to...

From Wikipedia: 'Aly Semigan of Entertainment Weekly critically praised the song stating "Fox's Glee put the ultimate earworm back in its rightful place." She then continued saying "even if you aren't one for show choirs (which, is quite frankly, shocking), it's pretty damn hard to resist." Semigan also compared it to the original version stating "it sounds slightly different in this Freaks and Geeks meets High School Musical pilot, but it's a good kind of different." '

Yes, Casimira. It could be worse. Mine is "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" from the film Frozen.

Though I usually wake up beforehand, my clock radio is set to come on in the morning and sometimes the first song I hear gets stuck in my head. Since yesterday morning I've been hearing John Legend singing, over and over......
