I just got one leaving a friend's house. Up until this one it was all good, music you wanna dance to up until I was leaving and then Afternoon Delight came on and I ran screaming "no, no no...you won't ruin my night!". T. herd heard me entering the gate humming this and said, "oh no!!!". I'm gonna play the one that was on before in order to erase the other: PLAY IT LOUD!!! (C'mon Biixa!!!)

Ohhhhh ~ can't wait until tomorrow, when I will play it and not worry about waking the neighborhood.
(But dammit, "I've walked for miles, my feet are hurting" is already going through my head. "Pretty pretty pretty pretty .......... I'm doomed!)

That borders on being culturally deprived.

I must have been listening to Maurice Chevalier.

French shops almost never play Christmas music, but every now there is an exception. And so I got stuck with 'Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer' in my head for part of the afternoon a few days ago.

In my first year of French class, one of the songs we were taught and sang was "Rudolph Petit Nez Rouge".

Personally, I would rather that than "The Little you know who Boy". Good one Bixa!!!

The worldwide ear worm has become The Wellerman, already well beyond 2 billion views on TikTok.

Fortunately, I haven't heard it and for that reason I don't plan on listening to the clip.

Well, it certainly keeps running through my mind regularly, especially when I am on a long walk, but I am not at all annoyed yet. In fact I am thrilled that a 200 year old Scottish sea shanty, sung in the traditonal style, can regain popularity in the 21st century. And it is great for walking because sea shanties were created to help people do repetitive tasks.

This morning I was showing some friends the progress on the patio-into-room project. The workers had the radio going and, as I was running my mouth explaining the extended plan, I suddenly froze. A mega hit from my teenhood was playing on the radio, but in Spanish rather than in the lovely Louisiana accents of the Dixie Cups. Of course I now have this as an earworm. Since I like to use time wisely, I managed to find the song I heard. Nothing is too good for you all! And, because I am a sucker for punishment, I clicked on this jewel as well. I suspected it was the Spanish version of a 60s hit, also prime earworm fodder ~

My all-time favorite earworm, the theme song used in Ken Burns’ documentary miniseries, Civil War.
I’m always happy when this tune pops into my head and sticks around for awhile.

I have never heard it, and I don't think that it will worm me because it sounds so much like so many other "old time" American themes (which are lovely, by the way).

I found the article/study interesting but I thought that it didn't reveal much more than what we already know. The experiment with the autistic child was fascinating and ingenious. Thanks for posting this Kimby..

Thanks for that link, htmb. I did know the backstory, but hadn’t seen the Atlantic version, which was more illuminating.
I’m feeling an urge to get out my recorder (flute) and try to play it, perhaps while sitting on the dock at the lake…

I have an earworm which came out of nowhere it seems. It's an old Roy Orbison song, "You Got It", (covered by many bands and individuals over time).
I don't mind it at all but, I think my husband is beginning to get irritated by my humming it.

Watched a special about Groucho Marx and Dick Cavatt. He sang this song, which has been running through my brain and kept me awake for hours. Very annoying.

I know what you mean. We have a Lydia in our family, and when I was first told her name it was all I could do not to start singing it. (Luckily I remembered the slight frost a generation back, when my mother was told the name of a new grandchild, and started singing "Hard-hearted Hannah, the vamp from Savannah"). My baby sister's name is Mary and she is the last-born of my parents five children. With the kindness commonly shown by siblings to each other, we older kids used to tell her she was named that because Mama and Daddy were bored with having children and couldn't be bothered to come up with a better name.
To make her feel better, my mother would play this song on the piano & we'd all wind up singing along. Naturally the words & music are stuck in my head forever.

After watching the Leonard Cohen documentary a few days ago I can’t stop humming Hallelujah. But that’s okay because it’s such a lovely piece.
I’ve googled up the lyrics and chords and I’m thinking about getting out my old baritone ukulele to see how it sounds.

So yesterday morning I was in the produce store minding my own business when a version of this song in Spanish came on the radio. Naturally I was compelled to sing along with the English words. Everything I learned in school the year this came out, when I was a mere fourteen, is pretty much gone forever. But this tune and most of the words are still stuck in my brain and going round and round and making me sing snatches of it all day yesterday and today. Click on video at your own risk.

Not exactly earworms but a week ago we went to our granddaughters' end of year show at their school in Bayonne. Nursery and primary school classes each putting on a "dance" to some music. Of course, the 11 year-olds were a bit more coordinated than the 4 year olds.
Anyway, what struck me was that all the music they used was old! Respect by Aretha Franklin, Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics, some French songs I had never heard. My conclusion was that contemporary pop music is completely undanceable. My son-in-law claimed it was because the teachers were old.

I agree with your son-in-law. The teachers pretend to ask for suggestions from the children, but they always impose their own stuff. No child born in the 21st century would choose "Respect" or "Sweet Dreams."
