I admit that I still enjoy charred meat although the black bits are supposed to give me cancer sooner or later. I've read somewhere that burnt toast is just as bad - who would eat toast that charred? I admit I do eat the 'over toasted' bits on a slice as I like my toast very toasted ;D

I like my rye bread well toasted, but not charred. I prefer English Muffins barely toasted. And challah must be very light.

Do people have huge mouths to be able to eat those tall burgers? I imagine most people take it apart. You could just share it between two or three people and have a perfectly normal meal, by fast-food standards.
I made little bison burgers tonight, but I didn't have any buns, so I just ate them naked, with a salad of a lot of veg but mostly cabbage and carrots. There was some Spanish aioli sauce involved, so as not to be too virtuous.

I also prefer the dry-roasted peanuts. There is already plenty of fat in peanuts.
Something about the Heart Attack Grill reminds me of the mayor of Toronto. (No, as far as I know he hasn't had a heart attack; he is just very large and heavy.
Some fat is essential for life, and I believe we are hard-wired to crave it in times of food scarcity. So of course many people now eat far too much. I really have to watch it, not because I believe in extreme low-fat diets, which wreck the skin and hair (a reflection of what they are doing inside) but because I'm inclined to put on weight in the wintertime - that is really a struggle here.

I have never really liked peanuts except in their odd uses in Senegalese and Thai dishes. I don't understand why anybody would eat them all by themselves. However, yes, I did grow up on peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, but I don't think I have eaten one since I was maybe 12 years old. I think that my older brother continues to take them to the office.

Unless something is full of food poisoning germs or some toxic chemical, I don't think there is any food that is inherently "bad." With the exception that if you, personally, are allergic to a food, you probably should not eat it.
It's all a matter of how much, how often. A huge bowl of ice cream eaten three times a year or a birthday dinner of steak, potatoes with extra butter, and several glasses of wine--these aren't going to kill most people. Eat them every day and maybe you've got a problem.

Drat. They sure know my cravings. Of course one could actually buy a little goat cheese, and sprinkle piment d'Espelette on it. But that isn't junky enough. Lots of other simulated flavours too! I thought France was only full of fresh vegetables and meats with sauces on them & crap like that. But no! Apparently one can walk into any convenience store in that country & perfectly satisfy any rarified junk food craving. Nice! (<-- not in the sense of the name of a French city)
At any rate, Amy is now my new favorite YouTube presenter, completely replacing Venus Angelic. I wish Amy well & am sure she will go far, unlike Venus, who can only run into a dead end.

I had to stop half way through as I found it monotonous. Yes, crap like that is found everywhere. It is interesting to wander into a supermarket and note the differences in flavours and product presentation in various countries, of what is basically the same manufactured crap.
One thing I really do like in the Netherlands are the crisp salty biscuits with lots of actual (Dutch) cheese.

I bought some oven baked potato chips. Big mistake. I might as well eat cardboard. They're dry, they're nasty, they have no flavour. I felt like pouring oil on them to improve them.

i have gone back to trying to eat few calories after coming back from vacation (and mainly healthy, though i can't help eating sweets, especially that peanut-filled chocolate mr. r. bought, it's there, so i have to, you see?) - and since then have this annoying craving for fast food. i walk by various burger, chicken and kebab places every day, and there are always people sitting outside and eating. and the bakeries with all their cakes in the window ... i think they are doing that just to make life really hard for me ...

Of course they are, Rikita! It's a conspiracy! I once tried to fast for twenty four hours. It was a dumb thing to do, but I was in my twenties and it wasn't my idea in the first place. However, everywhere I went there were signs of food I'd never noticed before. Billboards with huge photos of food - really crappy food - would jump out into my face and challenge me!

i kind of caved today and got half a grilled chicken. i did not get fries with it but rather a salad and ate some bread with it, so it was still alright calorie wise (i also only ate a bit over a quarter chicken, gave some to agnes and have some leftover for tomorrow) ...

Well, that is fine then. Other than the obvious crap, a problem is that those places sell items that are actually several portions. I hesitate to buy the very good Portuguese grilled chicken for that reason, unless I know I'm sharing it with friends. I certainly wouldn't eat a whole chicken, but one does tend to eat too much of them.

yeah portion size is a problem, and how fast one gets used to bigger portions ... whenever i don't actually check how much i eat in calories, my portions tend to grow over time, until eat amounts that are meant for two people ...

Sometimes it can be quite a surprise to take note of the food calories consumed over a period of a few (normal) days. Even when eating and drinking only healthy foods, it's easy to take in too much. And, of course, we all know that if we eat more calories than we expend, over time the result will be weight gain, no matter how healthy the foods. Though, I'm convinced, sometimes all I have to do is look at certain foods and I gain weight.

true, some healthy food can have a lot of calories, and still i suppose you should eat it sometimes ... and i suppose some food might be low in calories but also not nutritious at all, so not really "good" in that sense ... still, i would suppose it is easier to overeat on processed food and sweets and fried food, than on vegetables and fruit (as long as the vegetables aren't deep fried).

Oh, true, but besides cutting back on deep fried foods, I'd also think it beneficial to eat more dishes that aren't covered with additional calorie-rich sauces and dressings.

Thanks to a certain Anyport gourmand, I sought out & sampled FEBO in Amsterdam. That makes two countries in a row where I've eaten deep fat fried gravy -- bitterballen in Belgium, fried in front of me by a human, and satekroke, which came out of the wall a la 60s science fiction.
