What a terrible experience. It was most likely a swarm of bees; I don't think you could get such an invasion of wasps.

That is truly horrific SD. You could have died. What a cad. I had a similar thing happen when I was about 9 or 10 years old. My older brothers had disturbed a hive and they talked me into stepping on a bee, must have been the queen because the whole hive got in my hair and clothes as I was running, screaming through the yard. My whole body swelled up,my face unrecognizable. The family doctor who lived up the lane came over and gave me an injection. It took days to feel better.

Casimira - what I'm thinking is that perhaps the numerous bee stings had a positive and energizing effect on our body cells! Kill or cure! Perhaps the reason I don't suffer from any form of arthritis is that I've had a full dosage of bee venom! I know that some therapies involve being stung by bees on purpose. What do you think?

Had not heard of this. Sure would be nice to have something positive result from that horrible experience for both of us. I have no arthritis to date and hope never to. My husband has horrible in his knees and it's very painful to watch him do some simple tasks. Maybe I'll get him some bees . I do know that some forms are hereditary as my mil had it horribly too. My mother has some in her hands. Let's hope you're on to something!

The hand this morning is 95% better. I have taken some more tablets and should be fine by this evening.
Do you think the cortisone I have taken would mean that I would fail sports dope tests?

Horrible, Spindrift!
I had heard about bee stings as a treatment for arthritis. I think it's a very old thing, based on beekeepers' experiences. Need to look at your link!
Wasps will attack en masse also if their nests are disturbed. You must be right about the smell of the shampoo attracting the bees. It's really bizarre how they went right for your head and attacked. You'd think that if the smell seemed floral to them that they'd just crawl around looking for the flower, but the mass stinging must mean something else.

only playing. I do get frustrated as Mr. C. is more stubborn than I ,only his stubbornness lies in his unwillingness to seek treatment ,alternative or otherwise ,and it is truly maddening as I have obtained relief for ailments a number of ways. It sucks to see someone you love in pain. Therefore ,the BEE plan.

I was stung today. I don't know whether it was a wasp or a bee I was sunbathing on my garden seat, lying full length, I thought I heard my son say something to me from the house, I sat up and in doing so I squashed the wasp/bee between the inside of my upper arm and my side. Bare skin of course. I felt darting pain for about 2 hours but nothing more. Luckily I didn't have an anaphylactic reaction! However the sting drew blood which I squeezed out and I put tea-tree oil on it. Nearly fine now

I wonder if the fact that you were able to squeeze that blood out helped keep the reaction from being any more dramatic. If people have a way to do so, they should plant plantain ( plantago major) somewhere in the yard. Crushing the leaf on an insect sting can really help. Wetting tobacco and putting that on the sting is supposed to help also. However, with more people giving up smoking, there may be no tobacco at hand.

Thank you both. My son advised me that I should find the equipment I bought in France years ago that was like a little suction pump for pulling venom out of bites but especially snake bites! I used to take it to Africa when we went on family holidays. I have no idea where it is now. Funny how he remembered that. He was only 10 at the time.
I've just looked in the mirror. Only a small area around the bite is red and a little swollen. I only feel pain if I press it.

Glad you're ok there SD. Never heard of one of those contraptions. The worst single sting I ever got was from an unknown waspish thing while I was skinny dipping in Austin,Texas a long time ago. It stung me on my left breast and it really hurt. The woman(a nurse) I was visiting insisted that she had removed the stinger but on the flight home that day my breast was swollen and remained so and was itchy and hot to the touch. By the time I got home and went to my job ,I had a Dolly Parton sized left breast and needless to say very self conscious. My supervisor noticed and inquired about it and then insisted I go to the ER. They had to gouge out where part of the stinger had apparently broken off . They used some kind of freezing technique. It was a very unpleasant experience. The Dr. told me that within 24 hours gangrene would have set in and well, you can imagine what next.

Oh my goodness, how awful .... I wonder if some of the sting has been left in me! Actually I didn't like to say it but I was stung near to the side of my right breast. I asked my son to have a cusory look but it was only that since I was embarrassed. Today in the mirror I can see that there's a large round red and sore area around the plainly visible sting area which bled. What do you think?

Did not mean to alarm you and I am by no means qualified to determine or diagnose. That area of the body is ultra sensitive and there are many glands etc. If it is swollen or sore ,I personally would seek a medical opinion mainly because of my previous experience. Better to be on the safe side of caution. The tiniest piece of stinger can cause problems ,and in my case I had no idea it was there until my body told me so.
