Gorgeous crops! I am really coveting those yellow squash. Those little tomatoes look wonderfully sweet. You are growing my favorite things. Are the little round vegetables behind the squash in the first picture those lemon cucumbers?

Why would you even think they'd be tasteless? Both parsnips and some radishes are just white, yet flavorful.

Excellent September weather means the tomatoes have carried on ripening.
The cucumbers have finished though.
French beans are flowering again.

Coming to the end by and large but we have been pretty much self sufficient in veg for 4 months for 6 of us. A few carrots left, a decent supply of leeks and some chard.

I just love those flashy carrots Mick! Many years ago I had some seed sent to me from the US but I think the soil was to lumpy for them to look as good as yours. Summer is in full swing here so lots of salad meals - decided to plant lettuce in the retaining blocks by way of a change from flowers.

I always grow carrots in containers so I can provide the right soil. Much better than in the ground.

WOW Mick!!! It seems so early to be harvesting beets. When did you start/plant the seeds? Mine have sprouted but won't be ready for harvest until likely late February or early March. I do have a healthy crop of arugula/roquette that I'm harvesting and my carrots and radishes are flourishing but they too will not be ready for a few weeks from now. The carrots I planted are the same ones I have been growing for several years now, "purple haze" which are identical to your previous post. The color is indeed gorgeous but when I have made carrot cake with them some people have shied from it because the cake is a lavender/grey and doesn't look all that appealing. (The "secret" to growing them is to play Jimi Hendrixs song with an air guitar while putting the seed in the ground. ) I didn't plant any of the brassica's this year because of a lack of space with enough sunlight. Oh, and I also have some collard and mustard greens close to maturity.

Yes, I was confoozed when I posted this. I was meaning to say that I did not plant any of the brassicas that I usually grow such as broccoli and brussel sprouts. Mustard greens, yes.

There are more and more reports of the agricultural fields on the rooftops of major Parisian buildings. Frankly, I consider these reports to be mere media fluff, since obviously a roof will never be big enough to be credible. But they are nevertheless micro improvements of the situation and can often provide enough vegetables for a couple of school cafeterias or maybe a restaurant or two.

Well, they don't really do this without making careful checks beforehand. 20 or 30 years ago, they probably would not have bothered with such details.

Potato pots done 2 with rocket and 2 with charlotte both early varieties. The plastic mesh stops the dog eating the compost and supports the foliage as it grows.

Planted broad bean plants, sowed some more seed, sowed spinach, carrots, spring onions and planted potatoes in big pots.
