I pick veg as we are going to eat them, the cherry tomatoes are rarely around long enough for me to take any photos of them. I picked these carrots this afternoon to have with our Sunday Roast...enough for the three of us.

Lovely carrots! My first crop of carrots were poor but the maincrop are looking good.
And not Black Russian but Carbon.

Thanks you Mick. We are having a great gardening experience. Every stick poking up is the location of a potato. [/u

Stunning! It looks like seed catalog photos -- that which is promised, but which we seldom get.
That looks like regular red soil with a high level of clay -- is that so? Surely compost and other amendments are added to get such spectacular results. I'm in awe. Does the gardener come every day?

What is the gardeners name?

We have terrible red soil but also have a layer of fertile top soil. We have been making our own compost with kitchen and garden vegetation and it is dark and gorgeous after 30 years. You can see your little tree Bixa which has ended up in a potato patch!

We do have a full time gardener but the irrigation pipes were all my husbands doing. He is pleased as punch with the way it works.

Super impressive all of it and I swoon at the idea of 30 years of compost. I also love that the guanabana tree is growing in that graceful, shrubby way instead of straight up. Is that because of judicious pruning on your part?

The yellow pear is not impressive but you need to tell us more about it.

It’s yellow, shaped like a pear and bred by a man called Beam. It’s cherry tomato size.

Is that because of judicious pruning on your part? Are you perhaps looking at my lemon tree all green and bushy? My Mexican tree is growing in the potato patch straight as a lamppost. I was worried when it started loosing its leaves but so did my Maroela trees. Watching out for signs of spring!

Although we have a very large garden and raised vegetable beds, there is nothing liker having vegetables growing right at your feet. This is the first time we have ever tried container vegetable growing. so far so good. Carrots in four stages of growth. Hoping for a continuous line of harvesting. First attempt at potatoes.

Mick, I have been unearthing all kinds of seed packets from my stash and came across the tomato seeds I bought on Los Ramblas in Barcelona. I planted "Black Tomato - Tomato Nero" and "Purple Tomato - Pomodoro Viola" last year, and don't think anything came up. Then I have found a packet of RAF tomato seeds - the picture of them is exactly like your Black Russian! Going to try planting a few of these.

Nice to see more container growing.
Unless the seed was very old it should germinate. You didn't plant directly in the ground did you?

The bad weather has brought everything to a screaming halt. Tomatoes have stopped ripening, cucumbers have stopped producing, sweet peas have stopped blooming.
Perishing cold today.

RAF tomatoes, whatever next. The only veg we were allowed to eat were the carrots that enabled us to see in the dark, so useful for untangling those pesky bra straps.
