The wonders of a spring garden! You may have a slug deficiency since the leaves are almost completely intact.

And we thought we couldn't grow tomatoes.....Last haul from a crop of determinate tomato trees.

My grandparents kept big home grown stocks of potatoes, carrots, onions and apples piled up like a coal delivery in the cellar. While some of them looked less appealing when spring arrived, nobody ever went hungry.

Sowed broad beans in the greenhouse today. Might sow carrots, spring onions and lettuce tomorrow or Sunday.

I sowed them and they all came up but we had a howling gale yesterday and it blew the lettuce container over so I have to start again. Over the weekend hope to plant onion sets and Charlotte potatoes.
Mid April I’ll sow tomatoes, cucumber, mini courgette, French beans in the greenhouse.

Oh, poop! Were you able to save any of the infant lettuces?

Regret not. Scattered to the four winds. Start again.

Planted onion sets today. One of the hardest jobs in the veg garden with all the bending and stretching. Digging is infinitely easier.

Do you know what squirrels might prefer to eat instead? For example, if you put out a plate of peanuts or something, would that help?

That would encourage them. I want to discourage them!

You do know that squirrels are good eating, right? I think I still remember how to skin, gut, & cut them up, if you need me to come over there after you kill the varmints.

The worst possible weather for sowing veg seed. Very dry and not very warm. Nothing likely to come up.

Splendid spring onions there young Michael.... My lettuces are doing quite well..mostly because the slugs and snails haven't found them yt.... Sugar snap pea plants are about a third of the way up the cane wigwam, no carrots sprouting yet and the onioins are still tiny. I'm growing all my veg in pots or tubs.

Red spring onions are glorious. I snap them up every time they appear in my Monoprix. Usually, of course, only the white variety is on sale.

I have never seen purple spring onions either! My grandmother always had a huge vegetable garden. As a child I used to sneak through it pulling spring onions, wash them under the hand water pump then devour them. As I grew older, I still enjoyed them with a saucer of salt.
Colourful picture Mick!

Mich, I had them this very different way in a grilled meat place. I think you'd like it: Cut the roots off of the spring onions, then cut a shallow cross (optional) in the base. Stand the onions in a glass with lime juice and salt at the bottom.
