obviously, after April-May, most of the plants in Greece are burnt by the strong and almost daily sunshine, but some trees and shrubs survive well with some human TLC

Very interesting, Annie. Particularly interesting is the fact that the bougainvillea, a New World plant, seems to be quite popular there. I think that is some form of jasmine peeking over the bougainvillea in your second picture. Did you see any wild herbs? I always imagine Greece to be overrun with thyme and rosemary, but maybe not.

You can even get bougainvillea to grow in Paris, but it has to be brought into a warmer place for at least two or three months in winter. But of course it always is so much more magnificent in equatorial countries.
A lot of people do not realize that the purple (or red) things are not the flowers. The actual flowers are tiny and white. You can just see a hint of them on those photos.
