I'm intrigued by this documentary. It could wind up being quite interesting or, well, not. It's definitely a 'new' spin on this age old discussion for some. Growing up in Hawaii, I saw surfers of all stripes trying to tackle the North Shore. More information here: www.whitewashmovie.com

I enjoyed this very much nic,I would be interested in seeing the movie. Some years ago writer Susan Orleans (of The Orchid Thief fame),did a piece for the New Yorker about black "girl" surfers in Hawaii. She spent a couple of weeks hanging out with them. It was really well done and opened up my eyes a great deal about the sport and it's stereotypes. I grew up around a lot of surfers on the East Coast and it was pretty rare up until say the late 1970's to see female surfers. I've always loved watching the sport immensely. I stuck with body surfing myself. Got bunged up enough doing that.
