I took these two famous paintings at the Fine Arts Museum in Montreal. Any idea what they are called? This one is by Leonardo de Vinci: And this one is by Picasso:

They don't have info placards next to them?
Anyway, the Picasso is called "Embrace." Unfortunately I can't really see the Da Vinci 'cause of the flash. Do you have a different snap?

The top one is hard to see because of the reflection, but I am positive it's not a Da Vinci. I'm thinking Gauguin.

Don't thay have guards in museums in Montreal telling people not to use a flash? lt's hard to see anything because of the flash, but what's visible certainly doesn't look like da Vinci.

Come to think about it the first one was by Van Goth, not De Vinci.
Well done nic.

I hopped on a plane to Montréal and took a new picture of the Van Gogh so that you can all see what Deyana's photo was supposed to look like.

Thanks! I was edging towards Van Gogh because of the sky, but the brushwork in the foreground doesn't have his trademark squiggliness.

And there's no sun and no wheat, and no blue sky! Must be one of his inferior early works...

Don't you start with me! You do know that Van Gogh was influenced by his friend Gauguin, do you not? And yes, that probably is one of Van Gogh's earlier works, which hardly makes it "inferior". Humph. ( )

This is an early work of Van Gogh's, The Potato Eaters, 1885 and it was considered his first masterpiece. It fascinates me because of the differences from his later work.

Jazz, that is an interesting painting. I noticed it in this song about the artist himself.

Thanks for the link, Jazz. I had no idea there was a thread about him.
