I would love to post a photo of our new feline love, Pearl, inherited from Mr. Kimby's Mom. But the photo hosting sites are so onerous. BixaOrellana, if I PM it to you could you paste it into this thread, please? (I know, I'm hopeless. But between limited data and bad internet signal, I'm handicapped for photo posting.)

I actually did try that site Bixa, before making my plea to you, but the upload bogged down with my slow internet and I gave up waiting for anything to happen. :-(

Ohhhh ~ she is really beautiful! Is she settled in with you all now, and less sad about losing her other human, plus moving and everything?

Hard to know what goes on in their furry little heads, but I can't tell that she's missing her former owner or former home at all. She's adapted really well to us, and we to her. She fills the gaping hole left by tiger twins Mo & Mia pretty darn well.
And is SO much less trouble. At feeding time, we put down the bowl and forget about it, not having to police Mia's tendency to wolf her own food then push Mo away from his bowl and finish it for him. One younger kitty is far easier than two aging cats, litterbox-wise, too. Smaller well-concentrated pees, and no accidents at all. She doesn't even cough up hairballs. Not one kitty-puke or out-of-litterbox experiences yet.
But most importantly, she is sweet and funny, likes to lap-sit, and rolls over to have her tummy rubbed. She's playful and has a good motor on her (purr box). She travels pretty well, too. Now if we could just get her to sleep on our bed. (Return of winter temps and the electric blanket will probably fix that!)
We're in love.

That was such a lovely tribute to your own kitty, Kimby, but also to the depth of the relationship between humans and their other-species companions.

Pearl is adorable. How old is she? That's a very good question, breeze! Based on her dental issues - 8 missing teeth, 4 more pulled on our watch - we were thinking she was at least 10 or 11. My MIL got her in April of 2014 from another old lady who had to go into the nursing home and then died a month later, so no info from her. And this past owner's records have been "purged" in the 3 years since she died. But as we found out when we took her to the vet, she has a microchip that was implanted by Lee County FL Animal Services, but never registered by the person who adopted her. The chip company said the chip was part of a Lot of chips that was sold to Animal Services in late November of 2010. So if she was a kitten when chipped, she could be as young as 7. We are getting conflicting info from Animal services, but are now leaning toward 7 or 8 years based on the chip and anecdotal reports that Pearl was a kitten when her former owner got her. Hope so, cuz we want her to be around for a long time!

Well, that's definitely the face of someone who was held down and tortured for hours. They are soooo much more cuddly and lovable when clean. Since mine are short-haired, they tend to look clean. But a good whiff or a glance at a wall they lie against tells the truth.

So cute. I toy with the idea of getting another pooch. The local animal shelter had another patterdale recently but he's already been rehomed.... I don't know how Django would react to another dog....and I don't think my sinuses could take another one...still looking tho

Lovely to see some new additions to the AP pets and of course to see some old favourites. Pearl is a beauty I miss not having a cat - Buzze was p.t.s in September. Django looks a cheeky chap. This is my new boy I have had him since July as my old boy Toby had to be retired from being ridden with arthritis, unfortunately ironic since I was now able to ride after my knee replacement. Dart spent the first 4 years of his ridden career as a racehorse from 2 -6 years but has been a riding horse for the last 8 years or so. He was not particularly successful so was not raced so often that he received too much wear and tear. Dartanian ( Dart for short) yes it is spelt like that, here he is meeting my daughter for the first time ! Looking towards home after a long hack out.

I never realized racing horses got retired out as regular riding horses! Sounds as though your Dart finally has a nice home. He is very handsome and your beautiful daughter looks so sensitive and gentle with him.

My brother and sister-in-law lost one of their horses at the beginning of the year. I haven't heard if they found a new companion for him, because I'm pretty sure it gets a bit lonely out in the field that I saw.

Thank you - I'm proud of them both K2 you are probably right; horses generally need company being herd /prey animals . Yes Bixa some but not all go on to have successful careers or just become general riding horses. Dart was lucky he was sold to a lovely family who re-trained him successfully. In some ways he has come home because previously he was owned by a Hereford syndicate in his racing days and trained fairly locally to me. Some of them are not so lucky after making considerable amounts of money for their owners they end up not being cared for properly when retired from racing.

Butter wouldn't melt.... c1.staticflickr.com/5/4758/40227357311_7c008759ac_z.jpgYesterday Django was attacked. A woman walking her dog (a lurcher) had let it off the lead and was chatting to her friend. Her dog barrelled across the field to where OH was walking Django (ON the lead) in the opposite direction. Django is pretty good with other dogs, often sitting quietly until they come up to him. This b*st*!* towered over him, initially just sniffing then suddenly bit his leg. Jeff managed to scare him off (the owner was oblivious...still chatting to her friend as our dog yelped and hers barked) There is a small puncture wound but it isn't deep...and a patch of skin about 2 cm across where the lurcher tore out Django's fur. Very angry....the (stupid0 owner was told by an amazingly calm Jeffrey that her dog had bitten ours..she offered to pay the vet bill...but then said 'well....he's a lurcher what can you do?' gggrrrrr....Luckily Django bounced back and altho he's been quiet today he's ok. We are monitoring his wound....

She needs to be legally required to keep her poorly socialized dog on a leash at all times. There is an area where I used to take my dogs all the time to let them off the leash. They had both human & dog friends there. Well, then my boy dogs went after dogs on leashes a couple of times. Apparently they'd decided that plaza was their private property & other dogs weren't allowed. That was probably the deal with the lurcher, so entirely the owner's fault. I can stop any one of my dogs in his/her tracks by yelling the name plus NO! But it's my responsibility to keep an eye out to make sure they don't go all feral. Many idiot humans claim their dogs "wouldn't hurt a flea". That may well be true with adult humans, but often those owners have spent no time socializing their pets, so have no true idea of how their animals would react to other animals or to small children. I hope Django is entirely healed soon & that this experience won't make him overly wary of other dogs. pee ess -- he is sooooo adorable!
