(I still love #242 the best. There's something about that pic that is so comforting to me). ;D That picture always makes me think of this song: Thanks, ladies. The truth is, and this is very awkward, but I'm not at all sure I want to keep the little guy. A friend of mine, Claudia, was given three from that litter. She kept one, gave one to another friend, & saved little Teddy for me. He's absolutely adorable, lively, & smart. However, I don't think the dynamic is working out. Darla is just over a year old (b. early July 2011) & Harley will turn one on the 18th. The two of them get along really well together, and each one is happy with his/her special relationship with me. The puppy wants to be part of the pack and happily scampers along, oblivious to the fact that Harley mostly tolerates him and that Darla loathes him. He'll never grow to their size & I worry that a cranky snap might hurt him. Teddy is 2 1/2 months old & was given to Claudia two weeks ago. He's far more interested in being with the big-kid dogs than in being a lap dog, which I wouldn't want anyway. I've only had him for two nights & I think he's precious, but don't feel that true love I feel for the other two. I would love to give him to my former co-worker Adriana for her little girl, but a) I don't know how Adriana would feel about that and b) would have to clear it with Claudia before offering the pup to Adriana. When I went to meet up with Claudia & her two boys to see Teddy, I was already prepared to say no to one more dog, but he is cute & she did save him for me, and and and .......

;D, Oh!! That Will Carter song is perfect!!! Tee hee hee....too much!!
What a dilemna. I've not been in quite that situation before. The most dogs we've had was 3 (all males) and, at that particular time it worked out well. I think if you could persuade your friend to take on the new guy it would likely be a good idea, but, it sounds tricky. I'm sure whatever happens, the pups will be better off no matter what you decide. Good luck with that Bixa.

Oh my goodness Bixa, your new two puppies are so adorable! Darla and Harley will adapt to whatever rules you set out and they will form there own relationships in due time if you decide to keep Teddy.

I think that Bixa has been identified as an easy mark for puppy disposal.

-- on one hand, and on the other hand, Too strange, but wonderful. Adriana, who has been saying no to having a dog for quite a while, instantly said yes. I getting ready to go downtown & take the little guy to her. I just came back from taking Teddy for a shot. When I got back, Harley started frisking around with him as though he missed him. Darla, on the other hand, bless her evil little heart, does this thing of pretending she doesn't see him, running and jumping and "accidentally" knocking him down.

..... hope it works out for him and you all ( dogs included of couse)
A friend has 4 dogs, all different in nature, breeding and sizes from a beautifully natured Rottweiler to the tiny Chiwawa. Guess which one rules the roost... Only problem my friend has to watch out for are the buzzards when the Chiwawa is out in the paddock alone.

I hope so, too. Adriana told me a long saga of how her evil aunt doesn't want the puppy there (nor Adriana's sister's baby, for that matter ). However her little girl made Adriana promise that the puppy can stay for at least two weeks. I'm hoping that everything sorts itself out in that time. Lugg, it is wonderful when a bunch of dogs can create their own little harmonious community. Charlie has three grown dogs & six months ago rescued a year-old dog in terrible condition. That dog is now truly magnificent, but the other girls have never accepted her. She has a potential adopter coming tomorrow, so y'all keep your fingers crossed, please. I have heard that about small dogs & birds of prey! Actually, this is not really a pet story, but no matter -- I had some kind of night bird swooping my patio every night since I've lived here. I could hear the whoosh if I was outside, & its squaaark if I was inside. Well, for several weeks there's been no sign of the night hunter. I was outside one day when it hit me -- all the lines I've run across the patio with the mirliton vines on them have messed up its hunting grounds.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Charlie's dog Introducing Zeb ( Zebedee) our new dog who has been an absolute star today despite being up-rooted from all he has known previously. He is two year old Labrador whose owner died suddenly a few weeks ago, unfortunately he has been separated from his sister who has also gone to a new home. He has met the cat and so far so good ...the cat is top dog . Although not house trained( he lived outside as a farm dog,) he has used the garden only so far. I know it is early days and he is likely to test us much ore as his confidence grows. He is very underweight and that coupled with the Lab trait of inherent greed means that we have had to take great care with food ! What is strange to us, is that he sees each open door as a barriar that he will not cross without lots of reassurance, it took us a lot of persuasion to get him into the house at all, he is now happy in the kitchen , study and garage but will not venture any further into the main part of the house . That suits us for now and will have to wait and see. This shows a little better how scrawny he is in comparison to his leg length and his head size etc

Oh, goodness ~~ he is absolutely gorgeous!
I'm sure as he gains confidence, he'll start claiming parts of the house, bit by bit. I once adopted a street dog who was four or five years old. At first he wouldn't come into the house at all. Then one day, while sitting with friends in the living room, I saw he'd come through the kitchen and lain down on the step-down to the living room, paws politely crossed. After that he'd come in the house but not up the stairs. Finally he risked the stairs a couple of times, only to run immediately back down. But one day, he not only came up the stairs, but claimed my bed for his own.
Zeb is a very lucky dog. I can tell by the look in his eyes that he's the one for you!

Wonderful Lugg! He is a beautiful black lab. Our chocolate lab's name is Jebidiah, we call him Jeb. Zeb reminds me of Jeb when we brought him home from the Humane society, his ribs were visible as well and he weighed only 35 pounds and was a year old. He is now 7 1/2 and about 72 pounds, happy and fit. Ours has claimed every bed in the house as his now, you have to look all over the house some days to find him now, but he too was very unsure when he arrived. They adapt quickly. It is such a blessing that you took him, he deserves a happy place as I am sure he is grieving for his old home. Have fun, and patience.

Lugg, sometimes along with the stress of a new home, he could have been sick due to the change in water and food. Their stomachs are very sensitive to water change, try half and half bottled water and your tap water in his bowl for a few days to help him adjust.

Lovely dog, lugg. A change of diet will certainly also perturb him -- but it is all quite temporary.

Thanks K2 Tod not sure if it was the change in water or food but all ok now An up-date - he is an absolute star and settling nicely. Still ravenous. cannot believe he is not house trained as he has not had one accident, he walks perfectly on the lead, even though he never has been walked on one before. And ...he is great off it too as we have discovered after feeling confident enough to let him off now he is micro-chipped. He was micro chipped and checked out by the vet today, the vet thought he was almst a perfect weight, very healthy , just 0.5kg down and said it was nice to see a Lab that was not overweight. At this point we hung our heads in shame as our last Lab was HUGE ! He adores the cat , too much, and has the wound to prove it.

I love dogs and have enjoyed seeing pictures of everyone's pets. If I had a choice, I'd get a dog. I am able to enjoy my children's dogs and often keep one from time to time, but there is only room for one permanent pet at my house. She's old and cantankerous, but she absolutely adores me. Go figure. I've actually inherited her twice, so it looks like now we are stuck together for life. Here she is in all her calico glory with her "don't get near me" attitude. She'd whip most of your dogs any day of the week. Just ask my two lab-mix friends.

Harley does indeed look a happy , healthy dog. How is the little scrap doing, has he settled in his new home yet ? What a lovely coat your cat has htmb. What is her name ? Zeb is good , starting to test the boundaries which shows he is growing in confidence. Here is is testing the cat's limits as he tries to fit inside Buzz's bed

I actually >>>quailed<<< when I opened that picture, Htmb! Lugg, those pictures are priceless, especially the first one with the classic dog expression of "I know I'm a jerk, but this is important to me." Oh yeah, now Harley even dares to take some of the good spots on The Big Bed, despite the always incipient Wrath of Darla. This is Buddy, who is up for adoption as I don't have enough space for him.

duh ~~ It's late here. I finally figured out you were asking me about Teddy, whose name is now Goofy. The evil aunt is still evil, but I'm hoping sheer propinquity, not to mention the possibility of absolutely shattering a little girl, will win out.
