Oh Lugg, Fab puts you straight into the 60's...the Fab Four from Liverpool and a certain washing powder. Still...times were more fun then, stop the slapping and I may join you in Fab-land.

Were it up to me, I would "bipp" (gently) you side the head if you used the "FAB" word in my presence. .But, it is more effective to slap one's own face from personal experience.

Lugg, that is you and my sister as well! Her description of any tasty meal she has prepared or ( a long time ago) eaten at a restaurant, is always FAB! Lately she cooked duck breasts in marmalade and FAB gooseberries!

Was it DELISH?

Aaaaaaarggggghhhh! I have resisted putting "delish" & all its cousins on here because they're so irritating I even hate to type them. Apparently many people now believe that "comfy" is a real word. And women in generations younger than mine shamelessly refer to their spouses as "hubby". I have probably already ranted about "judgy (judgey?), or if I didn't, I should have. All words of this ilk sound like baby talk, something which is excruciating to anyone who is not an actual baby. In that vein, "yummy" has been trotted out again and is being used ad nauseum. Well, when "delish" is not used in its stead.

I'm with you on all those "words" Bixa. I have never used the word "hubby" (and, never will). It sounds like some kind of mechanical tool. (let the puns begin...)

Every knows it is "yum-yum". Gilbert and Sullivan said so!

Eek. I don't know what age group promoted the use of yum/yummy for adults. It was probably millennials, but I've noticed people in my age group (i.e., should know better) also sieze on any goofball usage that comes down the pike. Check this out. Doesn't it just make you want to get in there and cook, cook, cook? kitchenauthority.net/yummy-food-blogs-on-pinterest/

Oh don't you start - That is her second favourite word! Both DELISH and FAB sound like answers from lunching ladies in Sloane Square to the "waitron"....No waitresses there!

Optics
A word that is perfectly acceptable but it has come into overuse in my opinion. It seems everything in the news these days incorporates it to report everything!

Yeah. When I hear something like "The optics on that aren't good", I always imagine unattractive glasses.

Precisely!!!!
While listening to a recap of Biden's news conference this past week, they used the word "optics" at least half a dozen times!!!!!

Another one that I suppose is unavoidable is "virtual"
Maybe the reason it makes me crazy is due to Covid exhaustion but, I am so sick of hearing it..

I never liked "virtual" when I came across it in this context 20 years ago, but it is now necessary.

We have a really horrid one now here in Québec. Présentielle, the opposite of virtual, referring to pupils-students in school, or people physically present at a meeting.
Biden's staff needs a cliché alert.

Yes, we use that term in France, too -- présentielle vs. virtuelle.

I hate 'optics' as well. I remember about twenty years ago a German lad with excellent English asking me what 'virtual' meant as he was hearing it for the first time.
