Patience, patience! Yes, it's true that Picasa has peculiar properties, but I now use it for fast editing and uploads. The old photo site, Pbase.com, is so convoluted that I hardly ever bother with it now.
The Picasa Web Album pages are really funky, though, I'd agree. There's a bug that overrides the basic Macintosh keyboard shrtcut for "new window", Cmd-N. When Picasa Web Albums are on screen, that advances to the Next picture, instead of a New window.

But the bottom line is that it's not providing a way to post pictures. I didn't see that it uploaded any faster than any of the normal host sites and I edit before uploading.

I do it like this:
* I edit/crop/adjust lighting on my pictures in my Microsoft Digital Image programme. * I upload to Photobucket * I re-size on Photobucket just before downloading onto AnyPort
If you re-size just before posting you can decide on the spur of the moment which size would be most suitable. Some pics need emphasizing more than others.
I'm a great fan of Photobucket.

I do the same as you, Spindrift, except that I use a different program on my computer. I also resize it from the monster digital camera picture size in order to use up less space on the computer and make the photos manageable for attaching to email.
The Photobucket feature of resizing as you upload is one of the greatest things about it. As you say, you can size the picture to fit the occasion, plus their 640x480 size is perfect for putting a big picture on AnyPort without its being over-sized.

Is Flickr designed to make a person want to pick up her computer and hurl it through a window? When Flickr users post pictures here on AnyPort, the forum settings have to reduce those photos by 32%. This makes for slow page loading, which is a real hassle for anyone with a slow internet connection. With the intention of including a tutorial here on reducing photo size in Flickr, I went there so I could go through the steps. I used an unedited photo I had saved on my computer. Microsoft Picture Manager told me the picture was 72% too large, i.e., it needed to be reduced to 28% of its size to fit comfortably on a computer screen. Fine. First I had to upload the photo into Flickr -- a process that took at least a full minute. Then I had to allow Flickr to upload their editing program -- an annoying, cutesy, pokey program called Picnik. When it finally cranked into place, it turns out that the user needs to magically know the new dimensions desired. Clicking on the only two options rendered the photo below. Not only is it smaller than the optimum large size for AnyPort, it's a completely arbitrary size that I did not choose. Is there anyone here who would be willing to write a tutorial so that Flickr users could resize their photos there? *grumble grumble* I still say that re-sizing the pictures on ones computer saves space and makes uploading to a host site easier.

I love Picasa as photo editing and organizing software, but when I just want to upload images I use fr.tinypic.com/Try it, it's supremely simple- no joining, email confirmation, upload limits or any of the other usual crap- just upload, copy the link and post.

Hmmm... I'll have to look at that one. I've been using Photo Shack for quick uploads, but I'm always on the lookout for something better.

Hmmm. I wonder why the site in French linked by Fumobici has a resize button, but the one in English does not. The English-language site allows for multiple uploads, whereas the French one doesn't. They need to merge these features! =============================================== modified to add: I see I screwed up above & did not actually include the English language site. Now I'm finding the site in English (there is a language menu on the home page) that is identical to the French site, i.e., has resizing but no multiple upload: tinypic.com/.

Sorry about the French link, I just copied it from my bookmark and I'm using and reading French and Italian whenever I can online to keep my languages from atrophying too badly.

Don't be sorry -- it's a great link. Really, it's more useful than the English one because of the resize feature. I wonder if you can hold down Control with the French tinypic & get it to accept several pictures at a time.

Sorry, Bixa, you probably mean me. I thought the automatic resizing on Anyport meant we don't have to resize anymore, sorry.
I'll resize again in the future.

Wow ~~ everyone has to see this! I don't know if you've seen where I mentioned the new tinypic upload feature now available on AnyPort. (bottom left on any page here). At any rate, look at the two photos below. The first one was uploaded on photobucket. Below it is the very same picture, but uploaded on tinypic. There is a definite difference in crispness of the image!

And now, for even more tinypic excitement ~~ if you join tinypic, you'll be taken directly to your tinypic account when you access it from the tinypic uploader at the bottom of every AnyPort page. (providing you stay signed in to your tinypic account, that is)
I just joined, so don't know all the buttons and switches yet, but tinypic gives you a really complete and easy to use array of editing options.

MODIFIED TO ADD:Just use 700x700 instead of what I have below. No thinking or figuring involved, as the computer does it for you. Breaking news about pixel size! Spindrift asked at various times what is the optimum size for photos to be posted here. I never knew, so was forced to always use the default "message board size" of 640 x 480 offered by all the hosting programs. That is frustrating, because there are times you'd like to post a photo as large as possible, but without triggering the forum's built in re-sizer. If you resize your photos to 700x 525 before hosting them, you will get a picture that nicely fills the posting box without being over-sized. Just remember to set the host's maximum to something bigger than "message board size". Do not worry if your photo is higher than it is wide. Go ahead and size it to 700 x 525 and your computer will adjust for proper height and width. Here are examples using the same photo. This one is reduced to the "message board" option of 640 x 480. That is an excellent size for many photos you'd like to present, but there are some that would benefit by being larger. Now look at the same picture sized at 700 x 525. Note that there is no "picture reduced by x%" over the top of it, but that it fills the available space very nicely.

Hi James! Do you have computer access at home yet? It would be great to see you around more often.
In regard to the above about sizing ~~ I've found that setting the size at 700 x 700 on the computer, then setting the host uploader size at 15"screen(800x600) gives the desired result here when you want to post your photo at maximum size without the automatic forum re-sizing feature kicking in.
And a word about tinypic ~~ if registered, you can get a page with a multiple upload option by clicking on Your Home. It gives you an option on the right hand side called "upload more". It's not nearly as efficient as the photobucket bulk upload option, but perfect for a few pictures.

Picasa Test OK I love Picasa as an image editor, but I'd never used it to put up pics on a BB. It is a little clunky- you have to upload then r click on photo > properties > copy the URL, but it seems to work fine.

This seems like a good place to walk through the facebook picture process again. 1. Click on a thumbnail in a facebook album in order to open the full-sized picture. 2. Right-click on the full-sized picture. 3. Click on Properties. 4. Copy the url at Location. (It will be the 2nd url shown, under "Image Properties".)5. Paste it in the message box, highlight it, then click on the button. See if that works for you, and please post the problem here if it won't work.
