Pelicans are just about my favorite bird. They fly so gracefully - and in formation. We see them on the river every day at this time of year. I love how the image of your Whimbrel is so faint. When I was 13/14 I played guitar in a band. We picked our name by opening up an encyclopaedia and picking a word - we picked Whimbrel - it was a long time ago and the memory is almost as faint as the Whimbrel in your photo. Thanks for this.
(love the lizard too!)

This is so great, Gringalais! Are the birds all from one part of the coast? The coastline is so rocky!
The hummingbird seems so large for a hummer -- is it?
That lizard picture is out of this world. What a superior composition -- thanks for including it.

These pictures are all from a trip we took to the north. It is the 3rd region, mostly Pan de Azúcar National Park and the towns of Caldera and Bahía Inglesa. It is really a hummingbird, I believe it is called a giant hummingbird.

Thank you, G. I realized that I phrased that hummingbird question poorly. I didn't mean for it to sound as though I was questioning your identification. I really was asking if it was an exceptionally big hummingbird. The fact that it's called a "giant hummingbird" answers that question.

No problem. I looked it up and it is called the picaflor gigante. www.avesdechile.cl/ is the best I have found for info on birds in Chile.
