What if your whole life's destiny depended on you stopping at that store...would you drive past it when you know you want to stop?

What if your whole life's destiny depended on you stopping at that store...would you drive past it when you know you want to stop? I did decide to stop at the store when the electronic road information signs in the outer suburbs said there was a big traffic jam going into Paris. So I paid the 99 euros for the item and was just happy that the price had not gone up since I first spotted it at another location about 6 months ago. And then when I got on the ring road to go around Paris (after a slightly reduced traffic jam), something flew out of a van in the next lane over (there are 4 lanes in each direction). A car slightly ahead of me in that lane slammed on its brakes then BAM! BAM! BAM! as the three cars behind slammed into it. And this was more than a fender bender because the fronts of the cars were completely crumpled. I was very lucky not to be involved because one of the cars could have turned sideways in front of mine. I continued on home, and the road was completely empty behind me because I think that just about everybody was forced to stop. Whew!

My random thought dates from yesterday….Then i realised why i love this site : you are all alive. Living. Moving. Curious. Nice. Ready to help, people or dogs. With your pain, your fond memories of loved ones, your fantoms that you never leave in a closet. We live life, knowing what it can take from us, but also what we can get from it. That was my random thought. Cheers. I like the way you think whatagain! And I agree with you.

I tend to forget that things like Facebook or Twitter even exist until I see them mentioned elsewhere. I confess that I do check Instagram regularly to see how vain certain people are.

Autumn is often a morose time.

Cheer up Kerouac and go and have a good walk and admire the wonderful sights your city has to offer, now that makes me jealous.
I have no use for Facebook, twitter or such, this site provides all the entertainment I need

I don't find autumn morose. I like the difference in colours, even though trees here don't change too much. But there are trees called "liquidambars" which get lovely red leaves and all the young ones that have been planted by the town in the past two years are bright red these days.
Mossie is right -- the best cure is to go for a walk.

I love autumn. I think it’s my favorite season. My least favorite time of year coincides with my birthday, which is not in autumn.

Autumn...days get shorter and this is the season of grey skies and Seasonal Affective Disorder. Of roads that have had no rain for months and now send vehicles skating out of control. People with Liquidambar trees have to rake up leaves every day, but at least strangers like to look at their trees.

I am always amused that in France, Momo is used with equanimity as a nickname for both Maurice and Mohamed.

I feel excited - A lady and her husband are spending two nights in my AirBnB. Her details tell us that she lives in Paris! I hope to meet them in the next two days - She had surgery on a finger in one of our hospitals. Then are looking for another weeks accommodation. I think she is someone important judging from her photo in a university gown.

I know that everybody was quite worried at the beginning of covid, but I am exasperated by all of the laundry commercials for extra products that say they will kill 99.9% of the horrible viruses in your dirty clothes.

And what happens to the last percent ?
If viruses are like spermatozoids, killing 99 pc doesn't mean she doesn't get pregnant...
There can be only one, and you get a queen !

Sitting in the near dark this morning I’m not looking forward to more dark tomorrow when “daylight saving time” kicks in.
So rather than move an hour of daylight from morning to evening, I’m gonna make a wild suggestion, one that could have major impacts on society and our health.
This only works with 12- hour time-keeping, not sure how to do it on a 24-hour clock.
At 12:59 the clock turns over to 2:00pm. We still get a 1 hour lunch, but our work day is shortened by one hour. To keep the day at 24 hours, I would create a new 13:00 to follow 12 midnight. We would get an extra hour to sleep (or an extra hour of bar time for those night owls among us).
Day remains 24 hours, sunrise stays on sun time, sunset moves to daylight saving time and everyone gets more personal time. Employers would have to make do with a 7-hour workday, but productivity has increased greatly since the 8-hour workday was instated, and how much does anyone get done during their last hour of work anyway?
Digital clocks could be made to do this automatically, but analog clocks would become antiques.
Anyone down for this?
(Early morning musings . I hate DST, being so far west in our time zone.)

I'm always overjoyed with the time change, Daylight Savings Time.
I prefer for it to not get dark so bloody early, and it impedes my evening stroll over to the local pub as I don't like walking alone in the dark by myself. And, I do suffer from SAD big time.
The extra hour to sleep in an added bonus although it takes awhile for my body clock to adapt to it.

Extra hour to sleep? Most people complain about losing an hour of sleep when it starts.

Right. We lose an hour in spring. Gain one in fall.
(The system I proposed above would have us lose and gain an hour each day.)

I just sent an e-letter to my senator, entreating him to consider allowing western Montana to secede from the Mountain time zone if daylight saving time is made permanent year round.

Quite a few people have pointed out that if one time is to be made permanent, it should be regular time all year round. That's the one that when it's noon, the sun is directly overhead. Is the Senate on drugs?

Not a random thought, but one of looking back with fondness for dear Henning - Whinpp -who would have turned 58 today. I see he was born in 1964, my first year out of school and working as a typist. Henning brought a wonderful quality to Anyport with his photos and stories. We only got to see a small part of Henning, but Kerouac knew him better than anyone.
