when you are climbing, and you fall during a lead, and the person that is belaying shouts out "look, i didn't let go of the rope" with her voice full of surprise, that is not really reassuring.

Scary more like, Rikita.
It's surprising just how well equipped police cruisers really are here.

I'm glad that I changed my mind about my promise to the boss. No apology will be sent to the Vice President. I meant every word I said.

Not my style, but that is how my acts are sometimes perceived. In any case, I have been waiting for a transactional settlement of another work dispute. Either it will happen soon, or I will be going to labor court as one of my other colleagues has already done. That will take two or three years, but I am not in a hurry, and the longer it takes, the bigger the payoff.
My company has lost every labor dispute in which it was ever engaged since the day it opened its office in France.

It's amazing to me how people willingly engage in power struggles that they know they will probably lose. One of the most important things my parents ever taught me was "choose your battles carefully.."

I wonder what Kimby is up to again. Oops, sorry to have neglected you, kerouac. I was skiing. We did a lovely 4 hour XC trek in Glacier Park, though much of it was through an area that burned in a 2003 forest fire. It opened up the views of distant lakes and peaks and nearby streams that could not be seen through the dense tree and shrub cover before. Lots of animal tracks, including some that could only have been a bobcat, and others that I have concluded after consulting my animal track books were probably a skunk. No hooved animals at all, though it is claimed that fires improve habitat for deer and elk. My guess is that there isn't enough cover for winter shelter, though when it greens up in spring the deer and elk will flock there for the tender forage... Sorry for the non-random nature of this post - random thought - my hands are cold! (Hard to keep them warm when they are raised to the keyboard and all the blood runs out!)
